GNKCW Girls shines in BBA- 6th Semester

Students of Guru Nanak Khalsa College for Women, Gujarkhan Campus, Model Town, Ludhiana, brought laurels to the college by securing top positions in BBA- 6th Semester examinations held in May, 2017.
Simranpreet Kaur topped the college by securing 77.35% while Simranjeet Kaur who scored an aggregate of 73.55% stood 2nd in college. Amanpreet stood third in college by getting 73%.
The General Secretary of the college governing body Er. Gurvinder Singh Sarna and Principal Mrs. Manjit Kaur Ghuman congratulated the students and the members of the faculty for their outstanding achievements.

SUMMER FEAST AND CRAFT EXPO Concludes at GNKCW

Department of Home Science of Guru Nanak Khalsa College for Women, Gujarkhan Campus, Model Town organized an Summer Feast and Craft Expo.
It started on June 01, 2017 and concluded today with an exhibition of different Cooking and handicraft items. The guest of honour on this occasion were Mrs. Amrit Kaur Sarna, Mrs. Abhineet Kaur Sarna and Mrs. Prabhjot Kaur Dua.
Various activities like Salad making, Baking, Gift Wrapping, Block Printing, Quilling, South Indian Cooking etc were taught to the participants. Principal of the College, Mrs. Manjit Kaur Ghuman congratulates the participants and the organizing teachers and motivated them to do such activities in the future also.

BCA Farewell party at GNKCW

Students of Guru Nanak Khalsa College for Women, Gujarkhan Campus, Model Town celebrated their ‘sisterhood’ of poignant association of three years through a farewell party ‘ADIOS- 2017’ organised by B.C.A. II year students for the outgoing class.
The enthusiasm and gusto of the party peeled off its layers with smiles, tears, reminiscences and a cultural bonanza comprising dances and games.
The beauty pageant was the highlight of the show. Navdeep Saini won the title of Miss Crowning Glory. Shikha Sharma was declared as Miss Perfect Blend and Payal Vadera as Miss Monolisa Smile. The revelry of the farewell party reached apex with lovely damsels dedicating songs to their teachers in order to express their affection and gratitude. The Principal of the college, Mrs. Manjit Kaur Ghuman crowned the winners and motivated them to empower themselves for all their future endeavours. She asserted that the students should carry forward the morals given by their alma mater and make these values a base of their future actions and thoughts.

Students of Guru Nanak Khalsa College for Women, Gujarkhan Campus, Model Town, Ludhiana, brought laurels to the college by securing 50 first divisions in B.A-1st Semester examination held in December, 2016.
Arpit Sharma, a visually impaired student of this class scored 78.25% and stood first in the college while Sadhika Batra and Simran Haryani who scored an aggregate of 74% stood second in the college. Alka stood third by getting 73%.

GNKCW students shine in PGDCA-1st Sem, PGDMC-1st Sem

Students of Guru Nanak Khalsa College for Women, Gujarkhan Campus, Model Town, Ludhiana, brought laurels to the college in PGDCA-1st Semester and PGDMC-1st Semester examination held in December, 2016 by Panjab University, Chandigarh.
Students of PGDCA-1st Semester, Manpreet Kaur scored 84.22% and stood 1st in the college. Vandana Devi who scored an aggregate of 80.22% stood 2nd in the college. Navdeep Kaur secured 3rd position in the college by scoring 78.22%.
Students of PGDMC-1st Semester, Pawanpreet Kaur secured 71.55% and stood 1st in college. Prakriti Jain stood 2nd in college by securing 66.66% followed by Simran Sarna who scored 3rd position in college by getting 66.22%.

Students of Guru Nanak Khalsa College for Women, Gujarkhan Campus, Model Town, Ludhiana, brought laurels to the college by securing 42 first divisions in M.Com (1st Semester) examination held by Panjab University in December, 2016. Kawalpreet Kaur scored 79.85% and stood first in college. Ishmeet Kaur who scored an aggregate of 76.57% stood second in the college. Silky Sehgal secured the third position by scoring 75%. The students of PG Department of Commerce, Guru Nanak Khalsa College for Women, Gujarkhan Campus, Model Town organised a lively and colorful farewell party for the outgoing students.

Sanya Jain was crowned Miss Farewell, whereas Jagjit Kaur and Simarpreet Kaur were adjudged as first and second runner-up, respectively.

Students of Guru Nanak Khalsa College for Women, Gujarkhan Campus, Model Town, Ludhiana, brought laurels to the college by securing 06 first divisions in M.A (English) 3rd Semester examination held in December, 2016. Amandeep Kaur scored 67.25% and stood first in the college. Arshdeep Kaur who scored an aggregate of 64.50% stood second in the college. Jasmine Kaur secured the third position by getting 64%. Clad in black robes with colorful scarves on proud shoulders, a large number of pass-outs from Guru Nanak Khalsa College for Women, Gujarkhan Campus, Model Town, Ludhiana were conferred degrees during the Annual Convocation of the college, here today. As many as 494 degrees were awarded to grandaunts of B.A, B.Com, BCA and BBA in addition to Honours and Post-Graduate classes of M.A. (English), M.Com, PGDMC and PGDCA. The jubilant soiree consisted of large number of guests, including the college governing body and the parents of the wards. Dr. Harish Khare, Editor –in-chief, The Tribune group of publications, graced the occasion as the chief guest. Other special guests present on the occasion included S. Pritpal Singh Sarna, Joint Secretary, Guru Nanak Education Trust, Smt. Jaspal Kaur Sarna (w/o S. Parmjit Singh Sarna), S. Sarabjit Singh Dhaliwal ( Bureau Chief, The Tribune, Punjab) and S. Gurbhajan Gill. Welcoming the Chief Guest, Principal Mrs. Manjit Kaur Ghuman read the college report, accompanied by a power point presentation glorifying the achievements of the students and the members of the faculty in curricular and co-curricular activities. The Chief Guest conferred the degrees upon the students and felicitated the special awardees with 19 Roll of Honours, 14 College Colours and 41 Merit Certificates. This red carpet event was further embellished with the release of Placement Brochure by the Chief Guest. On the occasion, Mr. Baldev Singh, an eminent literary personality today was presented with an Award of Honour for his achievements in Punjabi literature. He is popularly known for his book “Sadaknama”. Lauding the achievements of the students in various fields, the Chief Guest delivered the convocation address in which he emphasized upon the various facets of our society such as education, nationalism and tolerance. He specifically mentioned the importance of education for women in our society. Delivering a very encouraging convocation address, he said that women should become equal in all walks of life and further suggested that every society needs universities and other forums of education to provide the citizens with a liberal outlook. He stressed that as Indian citizens, we are committed to make our country a glorious and prosperous nation. The ceremony ended with a vote of thanks by S. Gurvinder S. Sarna, General Secretary of the college governing body.

GNKCW shines in Punjab State Inter University Youth Festival

Punjab State Inter University Youth Festival was organized by Director, Youth Services, Punjab, Chandigarh on March 28, 2017 at Lubana Bhawan, Sec-30-A, Chandigarh. The following students of Guru Nanak Khalsa College for Women, Gujarkhan Campus, Model Town brought laurels to the college by winning various positions: Neeraj Sharma got 1st Prize in On the Spot Painting, Anupama Anand stood 2nd in Mimicry, and Prabhjot Kaur secured 3rd Prize in Non-Precussion (Sitar Solo). Annual Prize Distribution at GNKCW

Guru Nanak Khalsa College for Women, Gujarkhan Campus, Model Town, Ludhiana today felicitated its achievers at the Annual Prize Distribution Function held on the college campus. Dr. Maninder Kaur, IRS, Deputy Commissioner of Income Tax, Ludhiana graced the occasion as Chief Guest. The function was attended by a large number of guests comprising former College Principals, veteran academicians, Members of the College Governing Body and parents of the students.
Welcoming the Chief Guest, Principal Mrs. Manjit Kaur Ghuman read out the Annual Report of the college and highlighted the achievements of the students and the faculty in diverse fields.
Dr. Maninder Kaur also inaugurated an Exhibition by the Department of Fine Arts which proved to be a visual treat for the guests and the audience. Students’ works consisting of Murals, pencil and charcoal sketches, Abstract paintings, painted pots and compositions in oil and acrylic were displayed as a part of the show.
In the event, 281 students were awarded for their hard work in the session 2016-17 in academics, co-curricular activities and sports. In addition, general prizes were also given to students who have excelled in various fields. Shobita was declared the Best Singer, Akriti Makkar was adjudged Best in Dramatics and Manpreet Kaur won the Best Artist title. Prabhjot Kaur was honoured as the Best Athlete for the session 2016-17. Lauding the achievements of the students in various fields, the Chief Guest Dr. Maninder Kaur congratulated the college for the ever-rising graph of their achievements. She emphasized upon womanhood- woman as the creator of life. She talked about the power of dreams and empowerment. She thinks that for a woman, sky is the limit and everything happens for a reason. Rather than focusing on the statistics, we should focus on the problems and solution to those problems. A balance between the nurturer and the creator had to be maintained and how to strike a balance in the society’s expectations and professional responsibilities.
The ceremony ended with a vote of thanks by Er. Gurvinder Singh Sarna, General Secretary of the college governing body.

Students of Guru Nanak Khalsa College for Women, Gujarkhan Campus, Model Town, Ludhiana, brought laurels to the college by securing top positions in BCA- Ist Semester, B.Com-3rd Semester & 5th Semester examination held in December, 2016.
BCA-1st Semester Students Tamanpreet Kaur topped the college by securing 85.25% while Ravjot who scored an aggregate of 83% stood 2nd in college. Harleen Kaur stood third in college by getting 81.75%.
B.Com-3rd Semester Students Ridhika Gupta topped the college by securing 84.83% while Rushali Goyal who scored an aggregate of 81.66% stood 2nd in college. Premjit Kaur stood third in college by getting 80.83%.
B.Com-5th Semester Students Guneet Kaur topped the college by securing 85.5% while Amanpreet Kaur & Monika both scored an aggregate of 80.5% and stood 2nd in college. Simran Kaur stood third in college by getting 79.16%.

Extension Lecture on Emotional Intelligence AT GNKCW

The Placement cell of Guru Nanak Khalsa College for Women, Gujarkhan Campus, Model Town organized an Extension Lecture on “Emotional Intelligence” today. The resource person was Prof. Shagan Sidhu (AMITY Business School, Mohali). Prof. Shagan highlighted on how to combine the soft skill and hard skill while presenting yourself at the time of interview. He emphasized on various important aspects like communication skills, personality development and presence of mind. The aim of this lecture was to make students aware about varied interview skills. It was followed by an interactive session with the students. Principal Mrs. Manjit Kaur Ghuman welcomed the guest faculty and Placement Coordinator Prof. T.S Arneja proposed a vote of thanks.

Extension Lecture by Book club at GNKCW

The Book Club of Guru Nanak Khalsa College for Women, Gujarkhan Campus, Model Town held an extension lecture by (Retd) Dr. Gurminder Sidhu and Dr. Baldev Singh Khaira. Dr. Sidhu shared some of the most valuable experiences of their life with the students. It is worth mentioning here that Dr. Gurminder writes poetry whereas Dr. Khaira is a story writer. The session was followed by an animated interaction with the students. Many questions were asked by the students to which they got satisfactory replies by the speakers. The students were quite inspired by the self composed writings of both the writers, their valuable knowledge and experiences. On the occasion, Principal Manjit Kaur Ghuman underlined the relevance of such lectures which throw light on the inter-relation of literature and life.

GNKCW students Topped University in BCA-5th Semester result

Students of Guru Nanak Khalsa College for Women, Gujarkhan Campus, Model Town, Ludhiana, brought laurels to the college by securing four University positions in BCA-Semester 5th examination held in December, 2016. The total number of first divisions are 25. Navdeep Saini scored 90% and stood first in Panjab University, Chandigarh while Meenu Rattan who scored an aggregate of 87.75% stood 4th in P.U and second in college. Payal Vadera stood 5th in Panjab University and third in college by getting 87.50%. Navneet Kaur secured 86.75% and got 8th position in the university. Tanuja Sehgal stood fifth in college. Sports Meet at GNKCW

A two-day sports meet was held at Guru Nanak Khalsa College for Women, Gujarkhan Campus, Model Town.
The events of the first day include track and field events like 100m sprint, 200m sprint, 400m race, 800m race, 4X100m relay, 4X400m relay, long jump, shot put, Javelin throw, discus throw. These events were open to all, the players and the non-players alike.
The events of the second day of the meet were Fancy and fun events like three-legged race, potato and spoon race, sack race, chatti race and skipping .Prabhjot Kaur (BA-III) won the title of the best athlete 2016-17 and Jasveer Kaur (BA III) was adjudged as the second best athlete. A peons’ race also formed a part of the meet.

Events on road safety rules and women rights organized by GNKCW

On the occasion of International Women’s Day, Red Ribbon Club under Youth Welfare Services and NSS Unit of Guru Nanak Khalsa College for Women, Gujarkhan Campus, Model Town in collaboration with Honda Group, Municipal Corporation and Traffic Police of Ludhiana organized an event on Road Safety Rules at Children’s Park today.
Various activities were conducted on this occasion such as Rangoli competition and Slogan writing Competition. 83 students participated in this event out of which Amritpreet Kaur and Harpreet Kaur of the college won 2nd prize in Rangoli Competition.
An informative talk and road rally on road safety rules and Women rights awareness was also conducted.
Principal Mrs. Manjit Kaur Ghuman congratulated the winners of the competition and motivated the students to be a part of such social events for a better future.

GNKCW Students Selected in AXIS Bank

5 students of M.Com-4th Semester of Guru Nanak Khalsa College for Women, Gujarkhan Campus, Model Town were selected by Axis bank in their recruitment drive for the post of Assistant Manager in the Customer Service Department. About 150 students from different colleges came for the drive. First step was the aptitude test which was held at GNIMT on 20 February, 2017. In total 25 students cleared the test out of which 10 students being from the college. The selection was conducted on 03 March, 2017. These students appeared for the final interview in GNIMT. Names of the selected students are: Jasleen Kaur, Garima Goyal, Khusboo Gupta, Kiran Kaur and Rupinder Kaur.

Inter- College Competitions held at GNKCW

Guru Nanak Khalsa College for Women, Gujarkhan Campus, Model Town organized 4th Prof. Gurbir Singh Sarna Memorial Inter-college Competitions today.
This event was organised to mark the memory of Late Prof. Gurbir Singh Sarna, General Secretary of Guru Nanak Education Trust (Gujarkhan), Gujarkhan Campus and former Professor of Economics, GGN Khalsa College, Civil Lines, Ludhiana.
The competitions were held in six different areas – Poetical Recitation, Declamation, Creative Writing, Music, IT, Home Science and Mass Communication. As many as 17 colleges of and around Ludhiana participated in the competitions.
Prof. Gurbhajan Gill, an eminent writer of international acclaim, was the chief guest for the occasion. Jaswinder Kaur, wife of Prof. Gurbhajan Gill, also graced the occasion with her presence along with a number of other distinguished guests from the College Governing Body and other educational institutions. Dr. Gill emphasized the need to conduct such Inter College Competitions which bring out the hidden talent of the students. He went down the memory lane and shared some of his very special experiences he had with Prof. Gurbir Singh Sarna and Prof. Dua. He stressed upon the fact that students should be respectful towards their teachers and dedication should became the most important quality among the youngsters of today.
In Power-point Presentation competition, Govt. College for Girls, Ludhiana stood first while GGNIMT, Civil Lines won second prize followed by GGN Khalsa College, Civil Lines, Ludhiana at the third position.
In Code Development competition, Guru Nanak Khalsa College for Women stood first while Khalsa College for Women won the second prize followed by SCD Govt. College for Boys at the third position.
Guru Nanak Khalsa College for Women, Gujarkhan Campus stood first in Website Designing competition. GGNIMT, Civil Lines, Ludhiana won the second prize. Arya College, Boys Section, Ludhiana won the third prize.
In Debugging, Khalsa College for Women, Ludhiana won the first prize followed by Arya College, Boys Section, Ludhiana at the second place. Guru Nanak Khalsa College for Women won the third prize.
In Poetical Recitation competition, Kamla Lohtia SD College, Ludhiana won the first prize followed by Govt. College for Girls, Ludhiana at the second position while third position was bagged by Khalsa College for Women, Civil Lines, Ludhiana.
In Personality Reflection competition, Govt. College for Girls stood first, Arya College, Civil Lines Ludhiana followed by I.K. Gujral, PTU, Jalandhar at the third position.
Govt. College for Girls stood first in Declamation. MTS Memorial College for Women and Government college for Girls won the second and third prize respectively.
GNKCW stood first in Caption Writing Competition. Kamla Lohtia SD College, Ludhiana won the second prize and GGN Khalsa College, Civil Lines, Ludhaina won third prize.
Govt. College for Girls won the first prize in Essay Writing Competition. Guru Nanak Khalsa College for Women, Ludhiana.stood second. Malwa central College of Education and Arya College, Boys Section shared the third prize.
In Short Story Writing Competition, Malwa central College of Education bagged the first prize. followed by Government College for Girls at the second place. GNKCW and Khalsa college for women won the third prize.
Ramgharia Girls College won the first place in Poetry Writing Competition. The second prize was won by DD Jain College of Education, Ludhiana whereas Govt. College for Girls Ludhiana won the third prize.
Kamla Lohtia SD College, Ludhiana stood first in Scarf Decoration. Malwa Central College of Education, Ludhiana and MTS Memorial College for Women, Ludhiana won the second and third prizes respectively.
In Display Board Decoration, Guru Nanak Khalsa College for Women, Model Town bagged the first prize. GNIMT, Model Town, Ludhiana and Kamla Lohtia SD College, Ludhiana at the second and the third places respectively.
In Salad Making competition, Guru Nanak Khalsa College for Women, Model Town stood first while AS College for Women, Khanna won the second prize. Govt. College for Girls, Ludhiana stood third in the competition.
In Mehndi Competition, Govt. College for Girls, Ludhiana bagged the first prize. She was followed by MTS Memorial College for Women, Ludhiana and Arya College for Women, Civil Lines, Ludhiana at the second and the third places, respectively.
Guru Nanak Khalsa College for Women, Model Town stood first in Rangoli competition. Khalsa College for Women, Civil Lines, Ludhiana and Govt. College for Girls, Ludhiana won the second and third prizes respectively.

Industrial Visit by M.Com Students of GNKCW

An industrial visit to Shreyans Papers, Ahmedgarh Mandi was organised for the students of Post Graduate Department of Commerce, Guru Nanak Khalsa College for Women, Model Town, Ludhiana. 40 students along with their teachers visited the industry. The students came to know about various stages of production process, finishing department and boiler plant. The firm guided the students regarding the pollution norms to be followed, the waste products and by-products being fully utilized.
The students got an exposure on the practical aspect of the different techniques of production process. The students also interacted with the Vice president of the company and they studied the strength of paper through testing machines. Principal Mrs. Manjit Kaur congratulated the students for visiting the industrial unit.

Workshop on GST Conducted at GNKCW

The Department of Business Management and Commerce of Guru Nanak Khalsa College for Women, Model Town, Ludhiana organized a workshop on GST-2017. The workshop was presided by ica team of 6 members- Mr. Deepak Kataria, Mr. Satbir, Mr. Vishal Kashyap, Mr. Gurmeet Singh(Head of ica, Ludhiana), C.A Ashu Dalmia, C.A Shifali Girdharwal, Speakers from Ashu Dalmia and Associates from Delhi in collaboration with ica, Ludhiana. The Speakers gave a detailed knowledge of GST, tentatively to be imposed from 1st July, 2017. They discussed the reasons, impact of GST, types of GST and its implications on the economy. The Training and Placement Cell of Guru Nanak Khalsa College for Women, Gujarkhan Campus, Model Town organized a placement drive in collaboration with Uber Taxi Services.
Uber Marketing Consultant Ms. Amrita Kamath conducted the placement drive where she discussed how student Brand Ambassador Program will enhance and boost the confidence and personality of students by showcasing their marketing skills being the Uber SBA Program.
More than 100 students participated in the placement drive and 69 students were interviewed by Ms. Kamath.

GNKCW donates for Neki Ki Dukaan

Guru Nanak Khalsa College for Women, Gujarkhan Campus, Model Town, organized a donation drive, “Share and Care”, to donate various items like clothes, sweaters, shoes, bags, etc, to Neki ki Dukaan, an initiative of EK NOOR SEWA KENDRA.
Mr. Barjinder Singh, core member of this NGO, highlighted the various initiatives taken for poor people who cannot afford minimum living standard.

The Department of Computer Science and Applications of Guru Nanak Khalsa College for Women, Gujarkhan Campus, Model Town held an extension lecture by Mrs. Aashita Jain, Assistant Professor, Department of Computer Science and Applications, DAV College, Sector 10, Chandigarh today.
Mrs. Jain delivered lecture on Digital Debris: The toxic path of E-Waste. While addressing the students, she said, “E-wastes are considered dangerous as they pose a threat to human health and environment”. She further emphasized that discarded computers, cell phones, audio equipment and batteries if improperly disposed can leach harmful substances into soil and groundwater. Many of these products can be reused or recycled in an environmentally sound manner so that they are less harmful to the ecosystem.
The session was followed by an interaction with the students. On the occasion, Principal Manjit Kaur Ghuman underlined the relevance of this lecture which highlighted the importance of proper disposal of E-Waste.

'Aagman Purab', the birth anniversary of Sri Guru Gobind Singh Ji, founder of Khalsa Panth was celebrated with full fervor at Guru Nanak Khalsa College for Women, Gujarkhan Campus, Model Town here today. The Arambh of Sahaj Path Sahib Ji was on January 15 at College Gurudwara Sahib Ji and bhog of Shri Sahaj Path Sahib Ji took place today. The event started with prayers of Shri Chaupai Sahib Ji followed by Kirtan by the students of the Department of Music. Bhai Sahib Bhai Varinder Singh Ji Kang and his Raagi Jatha embalmed and enthralled the audience into soulful rhythms with the holy verses. To mark the event, competitions of Gurbani Shudh Ucharan and Gurbani Kanth, prior to the day were held in the College Campus. Prizes were given to the students to motivate them to read, understand and also apply Bani in their daily life. Damanpreet Kaur won the first prize, Gurleen Kaur stood second while Jaspreet Kaur Kaur and Rupinder Kaur bagged the third place in Gurbani Kanth Competition .. Kamaljeet Kaur won the consolation prize .Manpreet Kaur stood first, followed by Harsimranjit Kaur and Hardeep Kaur in the second place whereas Simarjit Kaur won the third prize in Gurbani Shudhucharan Competition. In this category the consolation prize was won by Tarandeep Kaur. The students and the teachers of the college brought rasad and Guru ka Langar was prepared by NSS Unit, Youth club & NCC Wing of the College. The college Principal Mrs. Manjit Kaur Ghuman congratulated everybody on the occasion. She encouraged the students to believe in Naam and to instil the spirit of togetherness amongst themselves which will help them to excel in all the endeavours. Voters Awareness Rally organised by GNKCW

NSS Unit, Youth club and Legal Literacy Club of Guru Nanak Khalsa College for Women, Gujarkhan Campus, Model Town under the able guidance of Shikha Bhagat(PCS) and the SVEEP Team including Kulwant Singh & Akshay Bansal (Nodal Officers), Harmesh Singh & Jasbir Singh(Master Trainers) organized an Awareness Rally to motivate young and future voters on the significance of casting vote. Around 200 students became a part of this rally which started from the premises of the college and covered areas around Model Town.
A Poster Making competition was also organized on the above said theme. Manpreet Kaur and Neeraj Sharma of B.A-II got 1st and 2nd Prize respectively.

The Post Graduate Department of English of Guru Nanak Khalsa College for Women, Gujarkhan Campus, Model Town held an extension lecture by Pratibha Nagpal, Professor, Department of English and Cultural Studies, Panjab University, Chandigarh today.
Prof. Nagpal delivered a comprehensive talk on the history of Indian Literature, dividing it into compartments – Early Literature, Contemporary Literature and New Literature. Her lecture was interspersed with examples and illustrations which made the exercise more impressive and effective.
The session was followed by an animated interaction with the students. Many questions regarding how to approach the examination were taken up. The students were also given appropriate examination-oriented guidelines and suggestions.

Guru Nanak Khalsa College for Women, Gujarkhan Campus, Model Town, celebrated the National Education Day today to mark the birth anniversary of Mulana Abdul Kalam Azad, a freedom fighter and an eminent educationist.
On this occasion three activities were organized in the college on the topic “Importance of Education”. Students showcased their skills and highlighted the importance of education through Essay Writing, Slogan Writing & Card Making Competitions. The results were as follows- Amandeep Kaur(M.A-II) in Essay Writing, Prabhjot Kaur(B.A-II) in Slogan Writing & Jessica (B.A-III) in Card Making were the winners of the competition.

GNKCW girl selected for Junior World Wrestling Championship

Gursimran Kaur of Guru Nanak Khalsa College for Women, Gujarkhan Campus, Model Town, Ludhiana, brought laurels to the college by winning Gold medal in wrestling(55 kg) in 2nd Students Olympic International Games 2015-16 held at Colombo(Sri Lanka) from 21st September to 23rd September, 2016. After this excellent performance, she has been selected for Junior World Wrestling Championship to be held in London.

7- Days NSS Camp 10th Oct- 16th Oct, 2016 at GNKCW

10th October 2016 The NSS Unit of Guru Nanak Khalsa College for Women, Gujarkhan Campus, Model Town, Ludhiana, is organizing a 7-days Camp from 10th October, 2016 to 16th October, 2016. During inaugural session, College Principal Mrs. Manjit Kaur Ghuman inaugurated the Camp and encouraged the NSS Volunteers to participate whole heartedly in all the activities. 70 students have taken pledge as NSS Volunteers. Programme Officers Dr. (Mrs.) Madhu Bala discussed the aims and objectives of joining NSS Camp and Mrs. Punpreet Kaur gave a briefing of the activities to be carried out during the 7-Days Camp. In the evening session Mrs. Shikha Kalra (Home Sci. Deptt.) gave baking tips and icing methods to the volunteers.

The day started with an interactive session on Yoga by Mr. Veer Bhan Gupta from “Yog Sadhna Kender”, Bhartiya Yog Sansthan. He taught various Yoga exercises to NSS Volunteers so that they can live a healthy life. During Morning Session, Ms. Sandhya Goyal, Student of B.Com-III from Guru Nanak Khalsa College for Women discussed about different Techniques of Gift Wrapping and Trousseau Packing, Card Making. She also taught various techniques to students about Tiara Making and bows making.
In the evening session, an informative and Interactive talk was given by Dr. Vidhu Modgil, Consultant Obstetrics/Gynecologist & IVF from Suman Hospital. She discussed about various Gynae Disorders, Cervix Cancer & Polycystic Ovary Syndrome (PCOS) its causes and treatment.
12th October 2016
The day started with the yoga session by Veer Bhan Gupta. In the morning, training session was held by Mrs. Usha Chopra (an instructor of Red Cross Society) on the topic ‘Home Nursing and first Aid’. She highlighted the importance of First Aid for hustle and bustle of city life.
In the Evening session NSS Volunteers visited Swami Vivekanand Old Age Home Model Town Extn., to interact with old people & know various problems faced by them at later stages of life. While interacting the NSS Volunteers distributed the sweets and necessary items among them. The volunteers also visited the newly constructed Meditation Pyramid and came to know ‘how the cosmic energy that effects the life of human beings.’ They learnt the different scientific techniques for meditation there.

The day started with an interactive session on Yoga by Mr. Veer Bhan Gupta from “Yog Sadhna Kender”, Bhartiya Yog Sansthan. In the morning session, Mr. Vikas Pahwa, one of the faculty member of the Bulls Eye, delivered a lecture on Personality Development. He gave very informative tips for improving Vocabulary and words retaining.
In the Evening Session, Mrs. Balwinder Kaur taught about the Paper Craft Techniques and Paper Quilling. Volunteers made different items including-paper bags, gift boxes etc.
14th October, 2016
The day started with an interactive session on Yoga by Mr. Veer Bhan Gupta from “Yog Sadhna Kender”, Bhartiya Yog Sansthan. He taught various Yoga exercises to NSS Volunteers so that they can live a healthy life. Morning session started with an Interactive Lecture by Mr. Bhanu Sharma and Mr. Anshuman on “Success and Spirituality” from The Art of Living. They talked with students about how to build up confidence, maintain concentration by using success parameters. They also encouraged the students for hard work, positive thinking, having clear vision in their life and taught to cope up their stressful youth period.
During Evening Session, Mrs. Shikha (Home Sci. Dept) from Guru Nanak Khalsa College for Women taught the NSS Volunteers about different Tie & Dye Techniques using various objects like pulses, coins, match sticks, hair pins etc. While using these techniques they made various designs articles like cushion covers, tie & dye dupattas, table covers etc.
15th October, 2016
The sixth day of camp started with morning prayer and Yoga. During 1st session, Dr. Aman Dua (Skin Specialist, A. K Clinic, Sarabha Nagar) delivered a Lecture on “Skin Care and Treatment” in which she guided NSS Volunteers on the various causes and remedies to be taken for skin glowing. She advised the students for water intake and protein rich diet. After that NSS Volunteers visited Gurdwara Shaheedan, Model Town & paid their services.
In the Evening session, a cleaniness drive was made by NSS Volunteers in the college campus. Different items like Paper Bags, Tie and Dye Dupattas, Gift Packing, Cards, Envelops & Boxes with Paper quilling techniques were prepared by students for the Exhibition “Craft Show”.
16th October 2016
The valedictory function was held on the last day of 7 day NSS Camp by the NSS volunteers of Guru Nanak Khalsa College for Women, Gujarkhan Campus, Model Town Ludhiana. The volunteers performed number of cultural items including folk song, group dance with great enthusiasm. An exhibition “Craft Show” was also held by the Volunteers in which they prepared various items like paper bags, boxes, decorated file covers, yummy chocolates, tie & dye material, envelopes etc. Madam Principal Mrs. Manjeet Kaur appreciated the students for the exposure of talent in all the items they performed. Programme Officers Dr. (Mrs.) Madhu Bala and Mrs. Punpreet Kaur congratulated the students on the successful completion of 7-day NSS camp.

Exhibition of Handmade Products at GNKCW

The students of M.Com-1st Semester of Guru Nanak Khalsa College for Women, Gujharkhan Campus, Model Town, Ludhiana organized a Practical project on “New Product Development and Promotion of Handmade- Best out of Waste Products”. The exhibition was inaugurated by Principal of the college Mrs. Manjit Kaur Ghuman. The students were divided into four groups consisting of eleven each. They displayed various products such as Wall Hangings, Candles, Pen Stand, Jewellery stand, jewellery box, Dream Catcher, Decorative Mirrors etc.
One of the group introduced a new brand for jewellery. A stall of eatables such as Hand made Chocolates, Brownies, Russian Salad etc. was also organized by the students.
In this exhibition M.Com students learned marketing skills regarding how to sell the products, how to make them attractive, how to convince the consumer to buy their products.
Principal of the College, Mrs. Manjit Kaur Ghuman congratulated the students for organizing such a wonderful exhibition and encourage them to organize such innovative projects in future.

Post Graduate Department of Mass Communication of Guru Nanak Khalsa for Women, Gujarkhan Campus, Model Town, Ludhiana organized a Visit to FM Gold, Ludhiana. The students interacted with the RJs and technical staff of the station. They learned about the process of writing for radio as well as how to operate the technical equipments used in radio broadcast. Some of the students were given an opportunity to act as RJ on the spot and speak on some given topics.
Principal, Mrs. Manjit Kaur Ghuman encouraged the students and staff to organize such visits which are helpful for the overall development of the students.

GNKCW Alumna selected in Indian Army

Deepali Bhardwaj, an alumna of Guru Nanak Khalsa College for Women, Gujarkhan Campus, Model Town, has been selected in Indian Army. She joined the army on 10th September, 2016 after going through a hard-hitting training. She completed her B.Com (Honours) from GNKCW in 2011. During her graduation, she joined NCC Wing as cadet and was selected for Republic Day Parade in New Delhi in 2010. She also visited Vietnam under Youth Exchange Programme of the Indian Government in 2011. Deepali appeared 4 times in the Service Selection Board Exam, cleared it in all the attempts but was merit out three times. It was in her 4th attempt that she finally succeeded and got 2nd rank all over India. She went to Officers Training Academy in Chennai for one year training on 1st October, 2015. On 10th September, 2016, she joined the Indian Army as Lieutenant. She was also adjudged as Miss OTA during her training period. Er. The much awaited Freshers’ Party at Guru Nanak Khalsa College for Women, Gujarkhan Campus, Model Town, Ludhiana was held today for the first year students by their seniors.
The function was presided over by chief guest Mrs. Reena Dhir (C.A., Director Finance, Amar Autotech Pvt Ltd.), members of the management and other esteemed guests. The seniors extended a warm welcome to the new -comers with great zeal and enthusiasm at S. Sant Singh Gujarkhani Auditorium. The youngsters cheered and hooted for their peers and juniors.
The newcomers were introduced through Catwalk on the ramp. Ms. Jasmine (Fashion Designer) Ms. Supreet (Air Hostess) and Ms. Anumeet Kaur (MD,Swani Motors) were the judges for the event.
The high voltage music and dance performances doled out by a mixed bunch of freshers and seniors were a special attraction of the day. Over 53 girls put the stage on fire with their ramp walk. The foot-tapping music, the flash lights along with the excitement and high spirits of the youngsters made the party unbridled and exuberant. The students also exhibited their talent in form of choreographed dance performances.
The title of Miss. Fresher, 2016-17 went to Samiksha followed by First Runner-up Ritika. The other titles were as follows: Miss Pearl-Sonality and Second Runner –up– Aastha Jain, Miss Spokes Model – Manjinder , Best Attire – Jaskiran, Miss Monalisa – Akrita and Miss Royal Court – Vani .
Mrs. Maninder Kaur, Head, Dept of Commerce, stressed upon the need to maintain a balance between academics and co-curricular activities and congratulated all the title winners.

Alumni Meet and Cultural Carnival at GNKCW

Guru Nanak Khalsa College for Women, Gujarkhan Campus, Model Town, today organized a Cultural Show on the occasion of Alumni Meet.
A number of cultural items were presented by the students. A play titled “Agni Kund” was performed and the students left the audience spell bound by their presentation. Mime, Mimicry, Histrionics, Bhand, Skit and Folk Dance of Rajasthan mesmerized the audience. Punjabi culture and heritage was also showcased by the students of the college in the form of various other folk items like Folk Orchestra and “Luddi” dance of Punjab. The show came to a grand finale with the presentation of Giddha, leaving the audience enthralled by the beats of folk instruments and colourful costumes.
Members of the College Governing Body, former Principals and Professors graced the occasion with their presence.

Teej Celebrations at GNKCW

Guru Nanak Khalsa College for Women, Gujarkhan Campus, Model Town, Ludhiana wore the festive look of a lively village with trinjans of students and teachers wearing colourful traditional Punjabi attires.
The chief guest on the occasion was Mrs Dolly Guleria ,an eminent traditional folk singer.The campus split with laughter and mirth when vivacious and spirited girls enjoyed the flower bedecked Peengs to the tune of Teej songs.
Girls savored ‘Batata puri’, ‘chaat’, ‘chuski’ and other street snacks from the food-stands put up in the college campus. The spectacular show was marked by a variety of other stalls including fun games, nail art, mehandi, bangles, and cosmetics by the students. The hot pick of the day were cakes and handmade accessories. Huge rush was seen on game stalls organized by the students of various departments.
Moreover, stunning Punjabi mutiyaars were ready with their gait and sportive spirit for “Teeyian di rani” Competition. Youth Day celebrated at GNKCW

Youth Club, Eco Club, NSS and NCC of Guru Nanak Khalsa College for Women, Gujarkhan Campus, Model Town, celebrated Youth Day as Swacch Bharat Abhiyan today. An oath on clean Ludhiana was taken to make our city as No. 1 under “Smart City Project”.
A Cleanliness drive was also organized by NCC cadets, Youth Club members and NSS volunteers accompanied by the staff from Sanitary Department, Municipal Corporation, Ludhiana.
On this occasion, S. Gurcharan Singh, Sanitary Inspector delivered a lecture on cleanliness. Dr. Charnjit Uppal, Medical Officer of Health and Mr. Jatinder Vij and his team were also present during the event.

Mrs. Meenu Mahajan (Asstt. Prof.) Dept. of Fine Arts, Khalsa College for Women, Civil Lines, Ludhiana was the Resource Person on the Occasion. She gave demonstration on various techniques of Quilling to design Greeting Cards, Ear rings, Fancy Rakhis etc. to the students. She highlighted the importance of art in everyday life and guided the students regarding numerous career options in this field.

Guru Nanak Khalsa College for Women, Gujarkhan Campus, Model Town inaugurated the new academic session 2016-17 by seeking the blessings of the Almighty today. In this respect, a programme of Shabad-Kirtan was organized in the college premises. The august gathering comprised of the members of the college governing body, the Principal, distinguished guests, members of the faculty, and students of the college. The staff and students of the Department of Music opened the event with an invocation to the Lord in the form of Kirtan. On this occasion, Bhai Sahib Bhai Baldev Singh Ji, Bulandpuri enthralled the audience with the divine recitation of Shabad Kirtan, which was followed by the recital of Path Sri Chaupai Sahib and Ardas. His soulful voice moved and inspired all, teachers and students alike.

It started on June 01, 2016 and concluded today with an exhibition of different Cooking and Art & Craft items. Mrs. Amrit Kaur Sarna was the Chief Guest on the occasion.
Various activities like Salad making, Chocolate making, Tie & Dye, Block Printing, Shagun envelopes etc, were taught to the participants. A total of 29 students from the city participated in it.

Clad in black robes with colorful scarves on proud shoulders, a large number of pass-outs from Guru Nanak Khalsa College for Women, Gujarkhan Campus, Model Town, Ludhiana were conferred degrees during the Annual Convocation of the college, here today. As many as 439 degrees were awarded to grandaunts of B.A, B.Com, BCA and BBA in addition to Honours and Post-Graduate classes of M.A. (English), M.Com, PGDMC and PGDCA. The jubilant soiree consisted of large number of guests, including the college governing body and the parents of the wards.
Padma Bhushan Dr. S.S. Johl, Chancellor, Central University, Bathinda graced the occasion as the chief guest. Welcoming the Chief Guest, Principal Mrs. Manjit Kaur Ghuman read the college report, accompanied by a power point presentation glorifying the achievements of the students and the members of the faculty in curricular and co-curricular activities.
The Chief Guest conferred the degrees upon the students and felicitated the special awardees with 11 Roll of Honours, 15 College Colours and 38 Merit Certificates. This red carpet event was further embellished with the release of Placement Brochure by the Chief Guest.
On the occasion, Prof. Kirpal Kizak, former Researcher & Fellow, Punjabi University, Patiala was presented with an Award of Honour for his achievements in Punjabi literature. Lauding the achievements of the students in various fields, the Chief Guest delivered the convocation address in which he emphasized upon the fact that learning is a never ending process; receiving degree is not the end of receiving knowledge. Creativity should be present in everything that a student wishes to do in her life. He also stressed that teachers’s life is an open book and he/she transfers his/her personality to the students. He added that a student should always be grateful and truthful to her alma mater.
The ceremony ended with a vote of thanks by S. Gurvinder S. Sarna, General Secretary of the college governing body.

GNKCW students shine in BBA-3rd Semester results

Students of Guru Nanak Khalsa College for Women, Gujarkhan Campus, Model Town, Ludhiana, brought laurels to the college by securing 23 first divisions in BBA-Semester III examination held in December, 2015.
Simranjeet Kaur scored 73.09% and stood first in college while Ravisha and Simranpreet Kaur who scored an aggregate of 72.18% stood second in the college. Vaneet Chawla stood third in college by getting 70.36%.

ANNUAL PRIZE DISTRIBUTION at GNKCW

Guru Nanak Khalsa College for Women, Gujarkhan Campus, Model Town, Ludhiana today felicitated its achievers at the Annual Prize Distribution Function held on the college campus.
Dr. Harshinder Kaur, Deputy Medical Superintendent, Rajindra Hospital, Patiala graced the occasion as Chief Guest. The function was attended by a large number of guests comprising former College Principals, veteran academicians, Members of the College Governing Body and parents of the students. Welcoming the Chief Guest, Principal Mrs. Manjit Kaur Ghuman read out the Annual Report of the college and highlighted the achievements of the students and the faculty in diverse fields.
Dr. Harshinder Kaur also inaugurated an Exhibition by the Department of Fine Arts which proved to be a visual treat for the guests and the audience. Students’ works consisting of Murals, pencil and charcoal sketches, Abstract paintings, painted pots and compositions in oil and acrylic were displayed as a part of the show.
In the event, 281 students were awarded for their hard work in the session 2015-16 in academics, co-curricular activities and sports. In addition, general prizes were also given to students who have excelled in various fields. Damanpreet Kaur was declared the Best Singer, Akriti Makkar was adjudged Best in Dramatics and Manpreet Kaur won the Best Artist title. Jassjot Kaur was honoured as the Best Athlete for the session 2015-16.
Lauding the achievements of the students in various fields, the Chief Guest Dr. Harshinder Kaur congratulated the college for the ever-rising graph of their achievements. She emphasized upon the various social evils such as female feticide, dowry system, sexual harassment, etc. prevalent in Punjab. At the same time, she urged the students of the college to raise voice against all these evils and to tackle with them through mental strength which had to be awakened as it is the need of hour.
On the occasion, Dr. Harshinder Kaur also encouraged the students to identify their potential and to hone the same for a successful life. The ceremony ended with a vote of thanks by Er. Gurvinder Singh Sarna, General Secretary of the college governing body.

Mrs. Parvinder Kaur from Pedilite was the Resource Person on the Occasion. She gave demonstration on various techniques of Fabric Painting and Liquid Embroidery to the students.. She highlighted the importance of art in everyday life and guided the students regarding numerous career options in this field. Principal of the College, Mrs Manjit Kaur Ghuman stressed upon the need of such workshops which help in giving a direction to the budding artists.

GNKCW Girls topped in Panjab University

Students of Guru Nanak Khalsa College for Women, Gujarkhan Campus, Model Town, Ludhiana, brought laurels to the college by securing University Positions in BCA-Semester 3rd examination and BBA- Semester 1st examination held in December, 2015.
BCA-3rd Semester Students Payal Vadera topped the University by securing 86.6% while Navdeep Saini who scored an aggregate of 84% stood 4th in University and second in the college. Meenu Rattan stood third in college by getting 81.1%.
BBA- 1st Semester Students Ashima Vaid secured 3rd Position in University and 1st in College by scoring 76.90% while Gagandeep Kaur scored 73.63% and stood 2nd in college.

Sports Meet at GNKCW

A two-day sports meet was held at Guru Nanak Khalsa College for Women, Gujarkhan Campus, Model Town.
The events of the first day include track and field events like 100m sprint, 200m sprint, 400m race, 800m race, 4X100m relay, 3000m, long jump, shot put, discus throw. These events were open to all, the players and the non-players alike.
The events of the second day of the meet were open only to non-players. Fancy and fun events like three-legged race, potato and spoon race, chatti race and skipping were held and the players of the college were not allowed to participate in these events to give a fair chance to the other students of the college.
Jassjot Kaur (BA-III) won the title of the best athlete 2015-16 and Simranjeet Kaur (BA II) was adjudged as the second best athlete. A peons€™ race also formed a part of the meet.

Guru Nanak Khalsa College for Women, Gujarkhan Campus, Model Town organized Prof. Gurbir Singh Sarna Memorial Inter-college Competitions today.
This event was organised to mark the memory of Late Prof. Gurbir Singh Sarna, General Secretary of Guru Nanak Education Trust (Gujarkhan), Gujarkhan Campus and former Professor of Economics, GGN Khalsa College, Civil Lines.
The competitions were held in six different areas – Poetical Recitation, Declamation, Creative Writing, Music, IT, Home Science and Mass Communication. As many as 14 colleges of and around Ludhiana participated in the competitions.
Padmashree Dr Surjit Patar, an eminent writer of international acclaim, was the chief guest for the occasion. Bhupinder Kaur, wife of Dr. Surjit Patar, also graced the occasion with her presence along with a number of other distinguished guests from the College Governing Body and other educational institutions. Dr. Patar emphasized the need to conduct such Inter College Competitions which bring out the hidden talent of the students.
In Power-point Presentation competition, Aditya of GGNIMT stood first while Abhishek of GGN Khalsa College, Civil Lines won second prize followed by Alisha Gupta of GNKCW, Model Town at the third position.
In Logo Designing competition, Harsimran Kaur of GNIMT stood first while Surbhi of Govt. College of Girls won the second prize followed by Sonia Passi of Khalsa College for Women at the third position.
In Code Development competition, Payal Vadera and Shikha Sharma of Guru Nanak Khalsa College for Women, Gujarkhan Campus won the first prize followed by Priyanka and Komal of Ramgarhia Girls College at the second position while Gursimran and Manibha of KCW, Civil Lines won third position.
Navdeep Saini and Meenu Rattan (Guru Nanak Khalsa College for Women, Gujarkhan Campus) stood first in Website Designing competition. Gurminder Singh and Arvind Sharma (GGN Khalsa College, Ludhiana) won the second prize. Sandeep Kaur and Jyoti Rani (Guru Gobind Singh Khalsa College for Women, Kamalpura) won third prizes.
In Poetical Recitation competition, Khushkamal Kaur of Ramgarhia Girls College won the first prize followed by Priyanka of Malwa Central College of Education for Women at the second position while third position was bagged by Manpreet Kaur of Govt. College for Girls and Kamaldeep Singh of GGN Khalsa College. In Personality Reflection competition, Sanya and Rahat (Govt. College for Girls) stood first while Himakar and Simarjeet of GGN Khalsa College won second prize followed by Simarpreet and Mandeerp (Guru Nanak Girls College, Ludhiana) at the third position.

Asha Rani of Ramgarhia Girls College won the first prize in Essay Writing Competition. Sabrina Khatoon of MTS, Ludhiana and Harsimrat Chawla of Govt. College for Girls won the second and the third positions respectively.
In Short Story Writing Competition, Navroop Kaur of Ramgarhia Girls College bagged the first prize. She was followed by Sonam of DD Jain College, Ludhiana and Gurarpan Kaur of GNKCW at the second and the third places respectively.

Extension Lecture on Literary Criticism at GNKCW

The Post Graduate Department of English of Guru Nanak Khalsa College for Women, Gujarkhan Campus, Model Town held an extension lecture by Dr. Aneel Raina, Professor, Department of English and Cultural Studies, Panjab University, Chandigarh today.
Dr. Raina delivered lectures on Marxist theory of Culture and New Historicism. By employing these two critical approaches, Dr. Raina apprised the students about the role of literature in society. He also explained that the main function of a critic is not only to see but to perceive a familiar thing and charge it with fresh energy.
The session was followed by an animated interaction with the students. On the occasion, Principal Manjit Kaur Ghuman underlined the relevance of such lectures which throw light on the inter-relation of literature and life.

ICSSR Sponsored National Seminar held in GNKCW

An ICSSR Sponsored National Seminar was organized by the Department of Business Management and Commerce, Guru Nanak Khalsa College for Women, Gujarkhan Campus, Model Town, Ludhiana on the topic "€œForeign Direct Investment - An Impetus for India’s Growth"€. Mr. D.L. Sharma, MD Vardhman Yarns and Threads Ltd., Ludhiana was the Chief Guest for the occasion and Dr. Karamjeet Singh, Dean, Faculty of Business Management and Commerce, Panjab University, Chandigarh was the Guest of Honour.
Dr. M.M. Goel, Dean Colleges, Kurukshetra University delivered the key-note address. He stressed upon the fact that how FDI played an important role in the process of globalization in the past two decades in countries like India.He told that India emerged as the third largest source of FDI with increased investment by 65% in 2015 leading to over 9000 new and safeguarded jobs.
Chief Guest Mr. D.L.SHARMA, in his address spoke on how FDI generates benefits by bringing in non- debt creating foreign capital resources, technological upgrading, new employment, sectoral development and exports. The Theme paper was presented by Dr. Kuldeep Kaur, Assistant Professor, Deptt. of Business Management & Commerce, GNKCW, Ludhiana
The Technical session was chaired by Dr. Joginder Singh Dhawan, Ex-Professor and Head Deptt. Of Economics and Sociology, PAU, Ludhiana. The key speakers on the occasion were Dr. Jasveen Kaur(Associate Professor University Business School, GNDU, Amritsar), Dr. Manjit Singh(Professor, University School of Applied Managament, Punjabi University, Patiala) and Dr. Sanjay Kaushik(Professor, University Business School, P.U, Chandigarh). The resource persons considered that the seminar is an important forum for the interaction of ideas among researchers and students in order to assess the impact of FDI on the overall growth of India in the current scenario.

"Aagman Purab", the birth anniversary of Sri Guru Gobind Singh Ji, founder of Khalsa Panth was celebrated with full fervor at Guru Nanak Khalsa College for Women, Gujarkhan Campus, Model Town here today. The Arambh of Sahaj Path Sahib Ji was on January 15 at College Gurudwara Sahib Ji and bhog of Shri Sahaj Path Sahib Ji took place today. The event started with prayers of Shri Chaupai Sahib Ji followed by Kirtan by the students of the Department of Music. Bhai Sahib Bhai Kanwaljit Singh Ji and his Raagi Jatha embalmed and enthralled the audience into soulful rhythms with the holy verses. Sangat was enlightened with the deep core meanings of life and spirituality with Shabad Vichar. To mark the event, competitions of Gurbani Shudh Ucharan and Gurbani Kanth, prior to the day were held in the College Campus. Prizes were given to the students to motivate them to read, understand and also apply Bani in their daily life. Manpreet Kaur (B.Com II) won the first prize, Mandeep Kaur (BA I) and Damanpreet Kaur (B.Com I) stood second while Prabhsimran Kaur (BCom III) bagged the third place in Gurbani Kanth Competition .. Damanpreet Kaur (BCom I) stood first, followed by Manpreet Kaur (BCom II) in the second place whereas Kamaljit Kaur (BA I) and Mandeep Kaur (BA II) won the third prize in Gurbani Shudhucharan Competition. The students and the teachers of the college brought rasad and prepared Guru ka Langar. Many students did Sewa by preparing and serving langar. Psychology Exhibition Cum Extension lecture at GNKCW

Department of Psychology of Guru Nanak Khalsa College for Women, Gujarkhan Campus, Model Town organized an extension lecture cum exhibition today. The resource person, Dr. Rajiv Gupta (MD, Consultant Psychiatrist) apprised the students about the problems of adolescents and how to deal with them.
It was a very informative lecture for the students as they were told about the importance of emotions and rational thinking in making decisions. It was a multi-dimensional lecture for adolescents as well as adults providing them a better view of society.
The lecture was followed by group activities and interactive session.
An exhibition of models made by the students of the college was also held on the occasion. Models on a wide range of themes were displayed by the students, like stress, emotional intelligence, schizophrenia and delusions and hallucinations.
Principal Mrs. Manjit Kaur Ghuman congratulated the students for their efforts and highlighted the need of such interactive sessions.

Battle of Tele Brains organized by Media Club at GNKCW

Students from different streams joined it and participated in the event titled as “Battle of Tele Brains ”. The show was based on different eras of television since its inception. The teams were titled as HD TV, Smart TV, LED, LCD and CRT TV. The competition was won by Smart TV team followed by CRT at second position. Mrs. Manjit Kaur Ghuman, Principal of the College, on this occasion underlined the necessity and relevance of such activities in the present scenario of competition and career orientation.

Programme Officers Dr. (Mrs.) Madhu Bala discussed the aims and objectives of joining NSS Camp and Ms. Inderpreet Kaur gave a briefing of the activities to be carried out during the 7-Days Camp.

22nd October 2015

On the second day of the Camp a series of activities were held on Thursday. The day started with an interactive session by Mr. Rohit Grover, Director, RGHC Health Care Center. He taught various stretching exercises and basic workout to the volunteers so that they can live a healthy life. A workshop was organised on "€œFlower Making Techniques & Arrangements and Table Setting". Mrs. Amarpreet Kaur (Home Sci Dept.) from Guru Nanak Khalsa College for Women demonstrated different kinds of Artificial Flowers with waste materials and different types of arrangements to the volunteers.

Later in the evening session, Poster Making and Slogan Writing activity was held by NSS volunteers in which they made different posters on themes such as Save Environment, Save Girl Child and also on the NSS Motto "€œNot Me But You"€.


23rd October 2015

The day started with an interactive session on Yoga by Mr. Veer Bhan Gupta from “Yog Sadhna Kender”, Bhartiya Yog Sansthan. He taught various Yoga exercises to NSS Volunteers so that they can live a healthy life. During Morning Session, Mrs. Shikha(Home Sci. Dept) from Guru Nanak Khalsa College for Women taught the NSS Volunteers about different Tie & Dye Techniques using various objects like pulses, coins, match sticks, hair pins etc. While using these techniques they made various designs articles like cushion covers, tie & dye dupattas, table covers etc.

In the evening session, the students learnt about the various skills of making homemade chocolates. 


24th October 2015

Fourth day of NSS Camp started with Yoga followed by workshop held by Mrs. Balwinder Kaur. She taught about the Paper Craft Techniques and Paper Quilling. Volunteers made different items including-paper bags, gift boxes etc. In the same session an interactive talk was made by Sanitary Inspector S. Bhim Sain and S. Gurcharan Singh respectively from Municipal Corporation, Health Branch. They talked about different preventive measures about Dengue. They also discussed about unhygienic use of Polythene bags and different health challenges caused by its excessive use. 

In the evening session, an interactive discussion was made by Mr.Jagtar Singh Sidhu ,Manager Telecom Dept, GOI. He discussed about various yog practices with ultra high frequencies. He also talked about “Stress Management through Yog and Meditation”. He also gave various tips to deal with hectic lifestyle.


25th October 2015

The day started with the yoga session by Veer Bhan Gupta. In the morning session NSS Volunteers visited Swami Vivekanand Old Age Home Model Town Extn., to interact with old people & know various problems faced by them at later stages of life. While interacting the NSS Volunteers distributed the sweets and necessary items among them. The volunteers also visited the newly constructed Meditation Pyramid and came to know ‘how the cosmic energy that effects the life of human beings.’ They learnt the different scientific techniques for meditation there.
In the evening session, an informative and Interactive talk was given by Dr. Zeenie Sarda Girn, Senior Consultant & Gynecologist, SPS Hospital, Ludhiana. She discussed about various Gynae Disorders, Cervix Cancer & Breast Cancer with the volunteers.


26th October 2015
  

The day started with Fitness Class by Mr. Rohit Grover, Director, RGHC Health Center. Volunteers also visited Gurudwara Sangatsar Sahib, Rajgarh (Sheeshe Wala Gurudwara).
In the evening session, volunteers prepared the different items like paper bags, boxes, files, flower arrangements etc. that are to be displayed in the exhibition on valedictory day.

Tree Plantation Drive at GNKCW

A plantation drive was organized by the NSS Unit of Guru Nanak Khalsa College for Women, Gujarkhan Camps, Model Town today in which saplings were planted in the college campus as a part of the drive. The volunteers pledged to make Ludhiana a clean and green city. Principal, Mrs. Manjit Kaur Ghuman, made the students aware about the threats of global warming and encouraged them to grow more plants for a healthy life.

NCC Cadet Selected for CATC-71

Gurpreet Kaur, Under Officer, NCC Wing of Guru Nanak Khalsa College for Women, Gujarkhan Campus, Model Town, Ludhiana, brought laurels to the college by getting selected for CATC-71. She has already attended various camps like ATC-65, CATC-67, CATC-69, CATC-70. These camps are organized for selection of Cadets for Republic Day Parade to be held in New Delhi. Industrial Visit by M.Com Students of GNKCW

An industrial visit to Vardhman Nishhinbo Group Company Limited, Ludhiana was organised for the students of Post Graduate Department of Commerce, Guru Nanak Khalsa College for Women, Model Town, Ludhiana. 83 students along with their teachers visited the industry. The students came to know about various stages of production process of shirts and various brands of company. They also visited various stores of the company such as Fabric Store, Trim Store and Cutting, Storage, warehouse and assembly sections etc. The students got an exposure on the practical aspect of the different techniques of producing threads, baking process of SSP Fabric, fabric selection and various quality control techniques of TQM. The students also got information about incentive schemes and Stress Management techniques. Principal Mrs. Manjit Kaur congratulated the students for visiting the industrial unit.

Alumni Meet and Cultural Carnival at GNKCW

Guru Nanak Khalsa College for Women, Gujarkhan Campus, Model Town, today organized a Cultural Show on the occasion of Alumni Meet. A number of cultural items were presented by the students. A play titled “Yeh Ant Nahin” written by Dr. Sahib Singh was performed and the students left the audience spell bound by their presentation. Mime, Skit and Folk Dance of Haryana mesmerized the audience. Punjabi culture and heritage was also showcased by the students of the college in the form of various other folk items like Folk Orchestra and “Luddi” dance of Punjab. The show came to a grand finale with the presentation of Giddha, leaving the audience enthralled by the beats of folk instruments and colourful costumes. Members of the College Governing Body, former Principals and Professors graced the occasion with their presence. Principal of the College, Mrs Manjit Kaur Ghuman highlighted the importance of extra-curricular activities along with the academics. On the occasion, she also welcomed the former students of the college. General Secretary, College Governing Body, Er. Gurvinder Singh Sarna, extended the vote of thanks.

 

GNKCW Stood Overall 3rd in P.U Zonal Youth and Heritage Festival

The students of Guru Nanak Khalsa College for Women, Gujarkhan Campus, Model town brought laurels to the college by their excellent performance in the Panjab University, Zonal Youth and Heritage Festival held at Ramgharia Girls College. The college won 29 prizes in total and stood 3rd overall in Ludhiana Zone-B in the various competitions held from 22nd September to 25th September, 2015. The Participants of One Act Play(Group and Individual), Mime, Classical Instrumental(Non-Percussion), Kavishri, Ladies Traditional Song, Mehandi and Naala Making stood first and qualified for the Inter Zone Youth and Heritage festival. The college Histrionics, Mimicry, Group Song, Group Dance(Group and Individual), Quiz, Rangoli, Crochet, Group Folk Orchestra(Individual) participants stood second in their respective competitions. Besides it, the students also won third position in various categories like Still Life, On the Spot Painting, Crosss Stitch, Poem Writing, Luddi(Group and Individual), Giddha(Group and Individual). Er. Gurvinder Singh Sarna,General Secretary, College Governing body, congratulated all the winners and appreciated their hard work. The Principal of the College, Mrs. Manjit Kaur, also encouraged all the prize winners and motivated them to perform their best in the next round of the competition.  

GNKCW girls excel in M.Com (2nd Semester)

Students of Guru Nanak Khalsa College for Women, Gujarkhan Campus, Model Town, Ludhiana, brought laurels to the college by securing 37 first divisions in M.Com (2nd Semester) examination held by Panjab University in May, 2015. Amandeep Kaur scored 78.78% and stood first in college. Ravneet Kaur who scored an aggregate of 75.42% stood second in the college. Tulika Narang secured the third position by scoring 74.78%. 
The General Secretary of the college governing body, Er. Gurvinder Singh Sarna and Principal Mrs. Manjit Kaur Ghuman congratulated the students and the members of the faculty for their outstanding achievements.
