Extension Lecture on Job Opportunities in Amazon India at GNKCW

The Placement Cell of Guru Nanak Khalsa College for Women, Gujarkhan Campus, Model Town organized a Seminar on “Job Opportunities in Amazon India” in collaboration with Edudesk Learning Pvt Ltd. today.
The Students were informed about the various job opportunities in the field of marketing followed by an interactive session. They were also informed about the Trained e-commerce Specialist Vendor Listing Training Programme for graduates.
A scholarship test was also conducted by the placement cell in collaboration with Bull’s Eye Institute for providing concession to the students for coaching for various competitive exams.
Mrs. Manjit Kaur Ghuman, Principal of the College, on this occasion, underlined the relevance of such lectures in the present time of competition and career orientation.

Psychological Testing fair at GNKCW

The Department of Psychology of Guru Nanak Khalsa College for Women, Gujarkhan Campus, Model Town organized a Psychological Testing Activity “Psyche-Logos Testing Fair” today.
On this occasion students were made to assess the Aspiration Levels, Personality Types, Levels of Adjustment and IQ levels of other students. For this purpose various standardized psychological tests were used.
Students from different streams participated in the event with full zeal and enthusiasm.
Er. Gurvinder Singh, General Secretary of the College Governing Body, congratulated the department for organizing such an interactive and interesting activity. Mrs. Manjit Kaur Ghuman, Principal of the College, on this occasion, underlined the relevance of such activities in the contemporary times.

Awareness Lecture on Thyroid at GNKCW

The NSS Unit of Guru Nanak Khalsa College for Women, Gujarkhan Campus, Model Town held an informative and awareness lecture by Dr. Amit Modgil, Consultant Physician, Suman Hospital, Ludhiana.
The topic of the lecture was “Thyroid and your health”. Thyroid is one of the hidden disease these days. During his talk, he discussed the various types of thyroid, its signs and symptoms, adverse effect on major organs and the various tests which can be conducted for detecting this serious health issue. The lecture ended with an interactive session between the speaker and the students.
On the occasion, Principal Manjit Kaur Ghuman underlined the relevance of such lectures which are significant to remain healthy these days.

GNKCW students shine in PGDCA, PGDMC and M.Com 2nd Semester Examination

Students of Guru Nanak Khalsa College for Women, Gujarkhan Campus, Model Town, Ludhiana, brought laurels to the college in PGDCA-2nd Semester, PGDMC-2nd Semester and M.Com-2nd Semester examination held in May, 2018 by Panjab University, Chandigarh.
PGDCA-2nd Semester- Jasmeen Birdi who scored 87.80% stood 9th in the University and 1st in the college. Bunisha Arora who scored an aggregate of 84.40% stood 2nd in the college. Ishpreet Kaur secured 3rd position in the college by scoring 83.30%.
PGDMC-2nd Semester- Manpreet Kaur who scored 62.80% stood 1st in the college. Kirti Devi who scored an aggregate of 60.30% stood 2nd in the college. Anupama Anand secured 3rd position in the college by scoring 58%.
M.Com-2nd Semester- Monika who scored 81.20% stood 1st in the college. Dikshu Chadha who scored an aggregate of 79.80% stood 2nd in the college. Navleen Kaur secured 3rd position in the college by scoring 79.40%.

Visit to Photo Exhibition

Department of Journalism and Mass Communication of Guru Nanak Khalsa for Women, Gujarkhan Campus, Model Town, Ludhiana conducted a Visit to Photo Exhibition titled “One Thousand Words” organized by Ludhiana Photo Journalist Association at PCTE Campus.
The students interacted with the photo journalists of various newspapers. They learned about the process of composing a good journalistic photograph . Queries of the students were answered in a very effective and easy way.
Principal, Mrs. Manjit Kaur Ghuman encouraged the students and staff to organize such visits which are helpful for the overall development of the students.

Freshers’ Party at GNKCW

The much awaited Freshers’ Party at Guru Nanak Khalsa College for Women, Gujarkhan Campus, Model Town, Ludhiana was held today for the first year students by their seniors.
The function was presided over by chief guest Mrs. Puneet Walia (Center Director, TIME Institute, Ludhiana), members of the management and other esteemed guests. She encouraged the students by giving them examples of Steve Jobs and other personalities who have motivated the youngsters to achieve in life . Hard work is the mantra of success. The seniors extended a warm welcome to the new -comers with great zeal and enthusiasm at S. Sant Singh Gujarkhani Auditorium. The youngsters cheered and hooted for their peers and juniors. As a mark of respect for their teachers, the students celebrated the Teacher’s Day as well with the cake cutting ceremony and best wishes to their Gurus.
The newcomers were introduced through Catwalk on the ramp. Dr. Gaganpreet Kaur (Orodental Surgeon), Mehak Jain (Renowned Journalist) and Shally Aggarwal (Director and Owner, Pinnacle Institute of Fashion Technology) were the judges for the event.
The high voltage music and dance performances doled out by a mixed bunch of freshers and seniors were a special attraction of the day. Over 46 girls put the stage on fire with their ramp walk. The foot-tapping music, the flash lights along with the excitement and high spirits of the youngsters made the party unbridled and exuberant. The students also exhibited their talent in form of choreographed dance performances.
The title of Miss. Fresher, 2018-19 went to Millie followed by First Runner-up- Ravleen and Aanchal as Second Runner up. while Miss Crowning Glory was awarded to Simarpreet, Best Attire to Bavleen, Miss Cat Walk to Tanvi , Miss Personality to Bhawna and Miss Mona Lisa Smile went to Jahnavi.
Manjit Kaur Ghuman, Principal of the College, stressed upon the need to maintain a balance between academics and co-curricular activities and congratulated all the title winners.

NCC Activity- Rally on Drug Abuse organized at GNKCW

NCC Wing of Guru Nanak Khalsa College for Women, Gujarkhan Campus, Model Town, organized a Rally on “Drug Abuse”.
The endeavor was taken to make the youth of today more conscious about the ill effects of taking drugs. Since the youngsters are more prone to this addiction, there need to be an awareness to make this society drug free.
36 cadets participated in it and raised the slogans by holding colorful placards in their hands. The rally was conducted in the area around Model Town.
The management and Principal of the college, Mrs. Manjit Kaur Ghuman applauded the efforts taken by the cadets.

Seminar on Campus to Corporate-Getting ready for your first corporate job at GNKCW

The Placement Cell of Guru Nanak Khalsa College for Women, Gujarkhan Campus, Model Town in collaboration with Time Insurance organized a Seminar on “Campus to Corporate- Getting ready for your first corporate job” today.
Mr. Neeraj Singh Rathore, an International life Coach and Motivational Speaker was the resource speaker.
He addressed the students to setup their goals and to work hard to acquire knowledge for any profession. The aim of the seminar was to make students aware about corporate world, and how to be successful in the corporate world. He motivated the students to achieve their goals, and have a strong will power. He discussed many success mantras with the students to succeed in personal as well as in corporate life.
The lecture was primarily for the students of final year of different streams.

Slogan Writing Contest at GNKCW

NCC Wing of Guru Nanak Khalsa College for Women, Gujarkhan Campus, Model Town, organized a slogan writing competition today. Students expressed their views on the topic of “Swachh Bharat”. Around 35 Cadets participated in the competition and showcased their creativity through the colourful and motivational slogans on the topic.
Principal Mrs. Manjit Kaur Ghuman appreciated the efforts taken by the cadets to spread an awareness among the youth of today to make the society a better place to live.

GNKCW helping hand for Kerala Flood Victims

The NSS Unit and Youth Club of Guru Nanak Khalsa College for Women, Gujarkhan Campus, Model Town, organized a donation drive to support Kerala Flood Victims. For this purpose various necessary items like mosquito nets, Slippers, Blankets, Dry Ration etc. were collected from the staff and students of the college and were handed over to EK NOOR SEWA KENDRA. This NGO has come forward to support Khalsa Aid by making a collection centre at ‘Neki ki Dukaan’ Principal of the college, Mrs. Manjit Kaur Ghuman appealed to the students to donate for this noble cause and also appreciated the work done by the NGO for the Flood Victims.

TREE PLANTATION DRIVE AT GNKCW

A tree plantation drive was organized by Youth Club and Red Ribbon Club of Guru Nanak Khalsa College for Women, Gujarkhan Camps, Model Town, Ludhiana today as a part of “Mission Tandrust Punjab”.
Saplings were planted in and around the college campus as a part of the drive. The volunteers pledged to make Ludhiana a clean and green city.
Principal, Mrs. Manjit Kaur Ghuman, made the students aware about the threats of global warming and the importance of planting more trees to keep the environment green, clean, safe and healthy.

GNKCW girl secures 7th Position in Panjab University, M.Com (4th Semester) Examinations

Students of Guru Nanak Khalsa College for Women, Gujarkhan Campus, Model Town, Ludhiana, brought laurels to the college by securing 38 first divisions in M.Com (4th Semester) examinations held by Panjab University in May, 2018.
Kawalpreet Kaur got 7th position in Panjab University by scoring 81.20%. Ishmeeet Kaur who scored an aggregate of 78.10% stood second in the college. Neha Sethi secured the third position by scoring 77.70%.

Teej Celebrations at GNKCW

Guru Nanak Khalsa College for Women, Gujarkhan Campus, Model Town, Ludhiana wore the festive look of a lively village with trinjans of students and teachers wearing colourful traditional Punjabi attires.
The chief guest on the occasion was Dr. Rajwant Kaur, Assistant Professor, Dept. of Punjabi, Punjabi University, Patiala. She inaugurated an exhibition of Punjabi cultural and heritage items organized by the college. It was an impressive display of traditional embroidery on sheets and cushions, pakhis and age-old utility items like charkha and radio-sets.
The campus split with laughter and mirth when vivacious and spirited girls enjoyed the flower bedecked Peengs to the tune of Teej songs.
Girls savored ‘Batata puri’, ‘chaat’, ‘chuski’ and other street snacks from the food-stands put up in the college campus. The spectacular show was marked by a variety of other stalls including fun games, nail art, mehandi, bangles, and cosmetics by the students. The hot pick of the day were cakes and handmade accessories. Huge rush was seen on game stalls organized by the students of various departments.
Moreover 64 stunning Punjabi mutiyaars were ready with their gait and sportive spirit for “Teeyian di rani” Competition. The esteemed judges are Dr. Jaswinder Brar (Professor, PAU), Mrs. Sharanbir Kaur Bal and Mrs. Prabhjeet Kaur Dua. They announced the various title winners:

The festival in its conventional colour was a welcome break for all from the busy study schedule. The Chief Guest of the day Dr. Rajwant Kaur emphasized on the fact that change is important. She talked about the significance of the month of ‘saavan’ in the life of children, youth and the older strata. She also stressed on the need to promote such functions which help the youth of today to identify themselves with the traditional Punjabi culture and folklore.
Mrs. Manjit Kaur Ghuman, Principal of the College, on this occasion, stressed the need to remain in touch with the culture of Punjab and preserve it. She remarked, “This is an endeavor to highlight our rich cultural heritage.”

Visit to renowned Novelist- Jaswant Singh Kanwal’s place

Department of Punjabi of Guru Nanak Khalsa College for Women, Gujarkhan Campus, Model Town organized a visit to the famous novelist S. Jaswant Singh Kanwals’s home at Village Dhudhike to celebrate his 100th Birthday. Around 50 students were part of this visit.
While addressing the students Mr. Kanwal emphasized on the idea that women are the hope of the country and they should carry the legacy of feeling and sentiments along with them in each phase of life. He stressed that the government should make more efforts to carry the rich heritage of Punjabi culture and language to another improved level. Students were really impressed by the positivity that he showed even at this stage of life. He was thankful to the teachers and students for visiting him and making his day a memorable one.

Classical Indian Music Performance at GNKCW

Guru Nanak Khalsa College for Women, Gujarkhan Campus, Model Town in association with Ludhiana Chapter of SPIC MACAY organized a live musical performance today in the college premises. SPIC MACAY – Society for the Promotion of Indian Classical Music and Culture amongst Youth is our country’s one of the largest cultural and voluntary movement that organizes various events throughout the year to promote the rich heritage and classical art forms of India. A Jugalbandi by Sitar Maestro Padma Shree Ustad Shahid Parvez Khan accompanied by Tabla artist Shri Hindole Majumdar was performed on this occasion. Ustad Shahid Parvez Khan started the event by giving a brief introduction of the Indian Classical Music and the various instruments used in it. They played the Raag Aaheer Bhairav on Sitar and Tabla. The august audience was mesmerized and spell bound by their performance.
The Principal of the college, Mrs. Manjit Kaur Ghuman expressed her gratefulness to the members of SPIC MACAY and other renowned artists for sparing their valuable time for the occasion.

Swachh Bharat Summer Internship Program-2018

Swachh Bharat Internship Programme-2018 was conducted by Guru Nanak Khalsa College for Women, Gujarkhan Campus, Model Town. Various clubs and forums such as NCC, NSS and Youth Club participated in this programme. Manakwal village near Ludhiana was adopted by these clubs and many activities were performed under it.
Poster-pasting, cleaning of streets and Aanganwadi School, Door to door campaigns- Dengue and Malaria fever prevention care, waste segregation, Diarrhoea - causes and prevention, awareness campaign for better sanitation practices such as using a toilet, hand washing, health and hygiene awareness, Interaction with the primary students telling them about the importance of hygiene in daily-life, cleaning of streets, drains and back alleys through awareness drive, wall painting on “Save Environment” and “Plant trees” were conducted during this programme.
Principal Mrs. Manjit Kaur Ghuman appreciated the efforts taken by the various groups and clubs. She also stressed the need of organizing such activities in the future. She applauded the efforts of the government for taking such developmental steps. The need of the hour is to spread an awareness among the public to keep their surrounding clean and green.

WORKSHOP ON ‘PHOTO JOURNALISM AND FEATURE WRITING’ AT GNKCW

Department of Journalism and Mass Communication of Guru Nanak Khalsa College for Women, Gujarkhan Campus, Model Town organized a workshop on the topic ‘Photo Journalism and Feature Writing’ today, Mr. Janmeja Singh Johl, Eminent Writer and Artist was the resource person on the occasion.
During his address, Mr. Johl apprised students about various aspects of Photo Journalism and the process of feature writing. The workshop was made more interesting by giving students an assignment on the spot to cover anything from the campus which they have never seen before. It was followed by a discussion on various clicks by the students.
Principal Mrs. Manjit Kaur Ghuman congratulated the department for the endeavor and stressed the importance of such workshops which underline the practical aspects of subjects like Journalism.

BCA-2nd Semester student Pooja Garg stood first in college by securing 74.50% while Muskanpreet Kaur who scored an aggregate of 71.50% stood second in college. Harleen Kaur stood third in the college by obtaining 69.25%.

Kirtan and Ardas at GNKCW

Guru Nanak Khalsa College for Women, Gujarkhan Campus, Model Town inaugurated the new academic session 2018-19 by seeking the blessings of the Almighty today. In this respect, a programme of Shabad Kirtan was organized in the college premises. The august gathering comprised of the members of the college governing body, the Principal, distinguished guests, members of the faculty, and students of the college. The staff and students of the Department of Music opened the event with an invocation to the Lord in the form of Kirtan. On this occasion, Bhai Sahib Bhai Inderjit Singh Ji Sagar -Ragi Jatha Gurudwara Shaheedan, enthralled the audience with the divine recitation of Shabad Kirtan, which was followed by the recital of Path Sri Anand Sahib and Ardas. His soulful voice moved and inspired all teachers and students alike.
Principal Mrs. Manjit Kaur Ghuman, congratulated all the position holders of the previous session and encouraged the students for their overall academic growth. S. BCA-4th Semester student Harleen Kaur stood first in college by securing 82.13% while Gursimran Kaur who scored an aggregate of 81.86% stood second in college. Tamanpreet Kaur stood third in the college by obtaining 81.60%.

B.Com-4th Semester student Sonali Goyal stood first in college by securing 85.33% while Enam who scored an aggregate of 84.50% stood second in college. Komal Sehgal stood third in the college by obtaining 83.83%.
BBA-2nd Semester student Roamnjit Kaur stood first in college by securing 77.81% while Sanya Sood who scored an aggregate of 77.27% stood second in college. Prableen Kaur stood third in the college by obtaining 76.72%.

GNKCW student gets PU alumni scholarship

Payal Vadera, alumna of Guru Nanak Khalsa College for Women, Gujarkhan Campus, Ludhiana brought laurels to the city as she received the Panjab University Alumni Association scholarship after she topped the university in BCA 6th semester examination.
The college principal, Mrs. Manjit Kaur Ghuman, informed that Payal was conferred with prize money of Rs. 10, 000, a certificate and a trophy. She was also awarded honorary life membership of Panjab University Alumni Association. Congratulating Payal on her success, she said, hard work is the key to success.
The General Secretary of the college governing body, Er. Gurvinder Singh, also congratulated Payal and wished her good luck for her future endeavors.
Payal, who is currently pursuing MCA from Panjab University, Chandigarh attributed the credit of her success to hard work and support of the college Principal besides constant guidance and motivation of her teachers from computer science department along with the blessings of her family.

FAREWELL PARTY at GNKCW

The students of PG Department of English, Guru Nanak Khalsa College for Women, Gujarkhan Campus, Model Town organised a lively and colorful farewell party for the outgoing students.
The enthusiasm and gusto of the party peeled off its layers with smiles, tears, reminiscences and a cultural bonanza comprising songs, dances and other eye-catching items. The beauty pageant was the highlight of the show. 17 students participated in Miss Farewell contest. Students of Guru Nanak Khalsa College for Women, Gujarkhan Campus, Model Town, Ludhiana, brought laurels to the college by securing 39 first divisions in M.Com-1st Semester examination held by Panjab University in December, 2017.
Monika stood 5th in the university and first in college by scoring 81.14% marks. Navleen Kaur who scored an aggregate of 80.71% stood 7th in the University and second in the college. Dikshu Chadha secured the third position in college by scoring 79.71% marks.

The enthusiasm and gusto of the party peeled off its layers with smiles, tears, reminiscences and a cultural bonanza comprising of songs, dances and other eye-catching items.
The beauty pageant was the highlight of the show. In the Arts Section, Manpreet Kaur was crowned as Miss Farewell, and Jaspreet Kaur and Navjot Kaur were adjudged as first and second runner-up, respectively.
In the Commerce Stream, Premjit Kaur was crowned as Miss Farewell, and Kanika and Swati were adjudged as first and second runner-up, respectively. In Business Administration & Computer Science Stream, Harmanpreet Kaur was crowned as Miss Farewell, and Aanchal and Harmandeep Kaur were adjudged as first and second runner-up, respectively.
The Principal of the college, Mrs. Manjit Kaur Ghuman crowned the winners and motivated them to empower themselves for all their future endeavours. ANNUAL CONVOCATION at GNKCW

Clad in black robes with colorful scarves on proud shoulders, a large number of pass-outs from Guru Nanak Khalsa College for Women, Gujarkhan Campus, Model Town, Ludhiana were conferred degrees during the Annual Convocation of the college, here today. As many as 415 degrees were awarded to grandaunts of B.A, B.Com, BCA and BBA in addition to Honours and Post-Graduate classes of M.A. (English), M.Com, PGDMC and PGDCA. The jubilant soiree consisted of large number of guests, including the college governing body and the parents of the wards.
Hon’ble, Syed Haider Shah, Deputy High Commissioner of Pakistan, graced the occasion as the chief guest.
Welcoming the Chief Guest, Principal Mrs. Manjit Kaur Ghuman read the college report, accompanied by a power point presentation glorifying the achievements of the students and the members of the faculty in curricular and co-curricular activities.
On this occasion, S. Paramjit Singh Sarna and S. Harvinder Singh Sarna (President and Vice- President, College Governing Body, respectively) addressed the audience and appreciated the efforts made by the chief guest of today to make it possible to reach the function. He also thanked the Pakistan Government for granting permission to the pilgrims to visit the gurudwaras situated there and also taking care of the religious places in a very sacred manner.
The Chief Guest conferred the degrees upon the students and felicitated the special awardees with 19 Roll of Honours, 14 College Colours and 17 Merit Certificates.
While delivering the convocation address, Mr. Shah congratulated the degree holders and prize winners. He stressed on five important key elements which should be kept in mind by the students – faith in yourself, commitment to learning, retaliation, sense of responsibility and empathy.
This red carpet event was further embellished with the release of Placement Brochure by the Chief Guest.
On the occasion, Dr. Gurcharan Kaur Kochhar, an eminent literary personality today was presented with an Award of Honour for her achievements in Punjabi literature.
The ceremony ended with a vote of thanks by Er. Gurvinder Singh, General Secretary of the college governing body.

Alumni Meet at GNKCW

Guru Nanak Khalsa College for Women, Gujarkhan Campus, Model Town, today organized a Cultural Show on the occasion of Alumni Meet. Former students shared their experiences and memories on the occasion. Paramjit Kaur (Vice-President, Alumni Association) highlighted the importance of time-management, discipline and moral values in the lives of students. Kawal Mohini (Secretary, Alumni Association) and Meena Girotra (ex-TV artist, Doordarshan) expressed their gratitude towards their teachers in the form of a song. Priyanka Arora, Ritu Priya and Deep Kamal also walked down the nostalgia lane and revived their memories. A game of Tambola was also played leading to fun and laughter. Members of the College Governing Body, former Principals and Professors graced the occasion with their presence. These students were members of Panjab University, Chandigarh contingent which participated in the Inter-University National Youth Festival(North) organized at Maharishi Markandeshwar(deemed to be) University from January 12 to 16, 2018. BCA-3rd Semester student Gursimran Kaur topped the university by securing 89.6% while Narinder Kaur who scored an aggregate of 82.67% stood second in college. Tamanpreet Kaur stood third in the college by obtaining 82.13%.
Result of the college is 100%. 32 students secured first division.

ANNUAL PRIZE DISTRIBUTION at GNKCW

Guru Nanak Khalsa College for Women, Gujarkhan Campus, Model Town, Ludhiana today felicitated its achievers at the Annual Prize Distribution Function held on the college campus.
Dr. Amanpreet Kaur Walia, Assistant Director of Income Tax (Inv.), Ludhiana graced the occasion as Chief Guest. The function was attended by a large number of guests comprising former College Principals, veteran academicians, Members of the College Governing Body and parents of the students.
Welcoming the Chief Guest, Principal Mrs. Manjit Kaur Ghuman read out the Annual Report of the college and highlighted the achievements of the students and the faculty in diverse fields.
Dr. Amanpreet Kaur Walia also inaugurated an Exhibition by the Department of Fine Arts which proved to be a visual treat for the guests and the audience. Students’ works consisting of Murals, pencil and charcoal sketches, Abstract paintings, painted pots and compositions in oil and acrylic were displayed as a part of the show.
In the event, 209 students were awarded for their hard work in the session 2017-18 in academics and co-curricular activities. In addition, general prizes were also given to students who have excelled in various fields. Simran Haryani was declared the Best Singer, Milanjot Kaur was adjudged Best in Dramatics and Neeraj Sharma won the Best Artist title. Jaspreet Kaur was honoured as the Best Speaker for the session 2017-18.
Lauding the achievements of the students in various fields, the Chief Guest Dr. Amanpreet Kaur Walia congratulated the college for the ever-rising graph of their achievements. While addressing the prize winners she said, “Women are the real architects of the society, they are capable of taking all the responsibilities in a very efficient manner.” She motivated the prize winners to excel in their fields.

Annual Athletic Meet at GNKCW; Juhi Gupta adjudged the best athlete

Annual Athletic meet was held at Guru Nanak Khalsa College for Women, Gujarkhan Campus, Model Town today. The Chief Guest on the occasion was Ms. Gurpreet Purewal, Additional Deputy Commissioner of Police, Ludhiana. The achievements of the sports department were highlighted by the principal, Mrs. Manjit Kaur Ghuman by reading out the Annual Sports Report of the college.
The events of the day included track and field events like 100m sprint, 200m sprint, 400m race, 800m race, 4X100m relay, , long jump, shot put, Javelin throw, discus throw. These events were open to all, the players and the non-players alike.
Along with these, Competitions were also held in events like three-legged race, potato and spoon race, sack race, chatti race and skipping . Juhi Gupta of B.A. Third Year won the title of the best athlete 2017-18 and Diksha Kaushal of B.Com Third Year was adjudged as the second best athlete. A peons’ race also formed part of the meet. A spectacular show was presented by the students of the college through a march past. Er. Gurvinder Singh, General Secretary, College Governing Body, congratulated the winners and applauded the participation of the non-players and presented a vote of thanks also. The event ended with a performance of giddha.

Women’s Cell of Guru Nanak Khalsa College for Women, Gujarkhan Campus, Model Town celebrated International Women’s Day in the college campus today. To mark the occasion Dr. Schumailla N. Bassi (Gynecologist and obstetricians) addressed the members of Women’s Cell on women empowerment.
She shared significant information regarding Menstrual and Menopause problem among women. She also discussed about the early symptoms of cervical cancer as well as the vaccination available for its prevention.

EXTENSION LECTURE BY PSYCHOLOGY DEPARTMENT AT GNKCW

The Psychology Department of Guru Nanak Khalsa College for Women, Gujarkhan Campus, Model Town organized an Extension Lecture on “How to make people like you instantly” today. The resource person was Ms. Jyoti Madan (A Personality Coach and a Motivational Speaker).
Ms. Madan highlighted on how to combine the soft skill and hard skill while presenting yourself. She emphasized on the importance of Body language and Communication Skills in developing healthy interpersonal relation. The aim of this lecture was to make students aware about the ways of bonding with people. It was followed by an interactive session with the students.
Principal Mrs. Manjit Kaur Ghuman welcomed the guest faculty and stressed upon the need of such lectures in today’s life.

Fine Arts Workshop organized at GNKCW

Fine Arts Workshop, “Chittar Kathavan” with artist Sidharth, was organized at Guru Nanak Khalsa College for Women, Gujarkhan Campus, Model Town today. The workshop provides a rare platform to the aspiring artists of the city to come face to face with Artist, Sculptor, Singer and writer Sidharth, his ideology and his techniques. The aim of the workshop is to apprise the students about the scope and strengths of fine arts while giving a peep into the life of the celebrated artist.
The journey of the artist’s life was traced with the help of a Slide Show depicting images of his paintings. Sidharth narrated the story (“katha”, as he likes to call it) behind the conception and creation of every painting. Through his show, he revealed that his mother trained him in this art in his childhood and taught him the technique of making fresh colors from tree bark, leaves, flowers etal.
Principal of the College, Mrs. Manjit Kaur Ghuman, extended a warm welcome to Artist Sidharth and emphasized upon the significance of such workshops and interactions.
Through the Slide Show he gave a glimpse of his various paintings such as The Elephant, The Ant, The Lion and The Sparrow etc and also showcased some of his paintings inspired by the life history of Guru Nanak Dev Ji- “Gagan mein Thaal , Rav Chand Dipak Bne”. He also focused on one of his paintings made entirely in the red colour which he named as Aashi- a small village girl with yellow eyes who got married in Canada and the artist had the opportunity of meeting her after so many years. Throughout the show, Sidharth’s informal and conversational tone captured the hearts and the attention of the audience.
On this occasion, a Fine Arts Exhibition was also held in the college. The session had a grand conclusion with a Painting Workshop where Sidharth gave live demonstration of his style and techniques to the audience.
Er. Gurvinder Singh, General Secretary, College Governing Body delivered a vote of thanks by appreciating the World renowned artist and his humble attitude towards life.

Inter- College Competitions held at GNKCW

Guru Nanak Khalsa College for Women, Gujarkhan Campus, Model Town organized 5th Prof. Gurbir Singh Sarna Memorial Inter-college Competitions today.
This event was organised to mark the memory of Late Prof. Gurbir Singh Sarna, General Secretary of Guru Nanak Education Trust (Gujarkhan), Gujarkhan Campus and former Professor of Economics, GGN Khalsa College, Civil Lines, Ludhiana.
The competitions were held in six different areas – Poetical Recitation, Declamation, Creative Writing, Music, IT, Home Science, Fine Arts and Mass Communication. As many as 26 colleges of and around Ludhiana participated in the competitions.
Dr. Gurminder Sidhu, an eminent Punjabi writer , was the chief guest for the occasion. She was accompanied by her husband Retd. Captain Khaira. She writes poems which basically focus on female foeticide and the significance of women in our society in regard to her various roles. In Power-point Presentation competition, Guru Nanak Khalsa College for Women, Ludhiana stood first while Guru Nanak Girls College Ludhiana won second prize followed by Guru Gobind Singh Khalsa College for Women, Kamalpura at the third position.
In Code Development competition, Ramgharia Girls College stood first while Khalsa College for Women won the second prize followed by HMV Jalandhar at the third position.
Khalsa College for Women, Ludhiana stood first in Website Designing competition. GGN Khalsa College for Women, Civil Lines, Ludhiana won the second prize. GNIMT Model Town, Ludhiana on the third prize.
In Logo Designing, GGN Khalsa College, Ludhiana won the first prize followed by HMV Jalandhar at the second place. Sri Aurobindo College of Commerce and Management won the third prize.
In Poetical Recitation competition, Ramgharia Girls College, Ludhiana won the first prize followed by SCD Govt. College, Ludhiana at the second position while third position was bagged by Guru Nanak Khalsa College for Women, Model Town, Ludhiana.
In TV Interviewing, Govt. College for Girls stood first, followed by I.K. Gujral PTU, Jalandhar at the second position. GGN Institute of Vocational Studies, Ludhiana secured the third position.
Malwa Central College of Education for Women stood first in Declamation. GTB National College, Dakha won the second prize followed by HMV Jalandhar and GNKCW, Ludhiana at third place.
Sri Aurobindo College of Commerce and Management stood first in RJ Hunt Competition. GGN Institute of Vocational Studies, Ludhiana won the second prize and Government College for Girls, Ludhaina won third prize.
Malwa Central college of Education won the first prize in Nail Art Competition. Guru Nanak Khalsa College for Women, Ludhiana.stood second. HMV Jalandhar and Ramgharia Girls College shared the third prize.
Guru Nanak Khalsa College for Women, Ludhiana stood first in Pudding Making. Government College for Girls, Ludhiana and HMV Jalandhar won the second and third prizes respectively.
In AD Mad Show, HMV Jalandhar bagged the first prize. Arya College Ludhiana and GGN Institute of Vocational Studies Ludhiana at the second place. Sri Aurobindo College of Commerce and Management bagged the third prize.
In Pakhi Making competition, Guru Nanak Khalsa College for Women, Model Town stood first.

Government College for Girls, Ludhiana stood first in Rangoli competition. Arya College Ludhiana secured second position. Guru Nanak Khalsa College For Women and Khalsa College for Women, Ludhiana won the third prize.
Government College for Girls, Ludhiana stood first in Still Life. Malwa Central College of Education for Women, Ludhiana and Guru Nanak Khalsa College for Women, Ludhiana won the second and third prizes respectively.

HIV AIDS Awareness Lecture at GNKCW

The Red Ribbon Club of Guru Nanak Khalsa College for Women, Gujarkhan Campus, organized HIV AIDS Awareness in the college campus today. Students from different streams of the college participated in this event with great zeal and enthusiasm and expressed their thoughts on different aspects of HIV/AIDS through their slogans and posters. In Poster Making Competition, Liza Goyal stood first followed by Ekpreet Kaur and Harmandeep Kaur at Second and third place respectively.

Parent Teacher Association meeting at GNKCW

A meeting was organized by the Parent –Teacher Association of Guru Nanak Khalsa College for Women, Gujarkhan Campus, Model Town, today. Its main objective was to provide an opportunity to the parents to learn about the academic, behavioral and social well –being of their ward and to clarify any related questions or concerns about their performance. About 30 parents attended the meeting and provided many valuable suggestions.
While addressing the meeting, Mrs. Manjit Kaur Ghuman, Principal of the college, said, “ As per today’s scenario, we are facing a very crucial period as far as the students are concerned. ‘Aagman Purab’, the birth anniversary of Sri Guru Gobind Singh Ji, founder of Khalsa Panth was celebrated with full fervor at Guru Nanak Khalsa College for Women, Gujarkhan Campus, Model Town here today. The Arambh of Sahaj Path Sahib Ji was on January 19 at College Gurudwara Sahib Ji and bhog of Shri Sahaj Path Sahib Ji took place today. The event started with prayers of Shri Chaupai Sahib Ji followed by Kirtan by the students of the Department of Music.
Bhai Sahib Bhai Randhir Singh Ji and his Raagi Jatha embalmed and enthralled the audience into soulful rhythms with the holy verses. To mark the event, competitions of Gurbani Shudh Ucharan and Gurbani Kanth, prior to the day were held in the College Campus. Prizes were given to the students to motivate them to read, understand and also apply Bani in their daily life. Deepinder Kaur won the first prize, Aishwarya Kaur and Rupinder Kaur stood second while Damanjit Kaur Kaur and Kamaljit Kaur bagged the third place in Gurbani Kanth Competition . Harsimran Kaur won the consolation prize .Amteshwar Kaur stood first, followed by Ishmanpreet Kaur and Evenpreet Kaur in the second place whereas Gurdeep Kaur and Harsimran Kaur won the third prize in Gurbani Shudhucharan Competition. In this category the consolation prize was won by Navneet Kaur and Simran Kaur. The students and the teachers of the college brought rasad and Guru ka Langar was prepared by NSS Unit, Youth club & NCC Wing of the College.

Red Ribbon Club of Guru Nanak Khalsa College for Women, Gujarkhan Campus, Model Town, celebrated National Youth Day today to commemorate the birth anniversary of Swami Vivekananda.
On this occasion, Mr. Davinder Singh Lotey, Assistant Director, Youth Welfare, Ludhiana delivered a motivational talk on the importance of Swami Vivekananda’s teachings and principles. He focused on current issues such as Drug Addiction, Mobile Phone Addiction and the respect of elders as per today’s scenario. Mr. Lotey further emphasized upon the fact that the youth are the backbone of the nation and they must work unitedly for the progress of the nation.

PLACEMENT DRIVE AT GNKCW

The Training and Placement Cell of Guru Nanak Khalsa College for Women, Gujarkhan Campus, Model Town organized a placement drive in collaboration with CONCENTRIX.
The resource person Mr. Bala Subramaniam (HR, Head) acquainted the students with the placement procedure which was divided in three rounds – Logical Reasoning, Personal Interview and HR Round.
The Placement Drive was open to all the final year students of B.A, B.Com, BCA, BBA, M.A, M.Com and PGDCA. More than 300 students participated in the programme out of which 64 got selected for various jobs in IT sector, Banking, Finance companies, etc.

GNKCW girls won various medals in Punjab Power Lifting Championship

Pawandeep Kaur (47 Kg Category) and Reema Kaur(43 Kg Category) of Guru Nanak Khalsa College for Women, Gujarkhan Campus, Model Town, Ludhiana, brought laurels to the college by winning Gold medal in Punjab Power Lifting Championship Junior and Master Men & Women(equipped and unequipped) held at Phagwara, District Kapurthala on December 16-17, 2017.
In the same Event Poonam Rani (52Kg Category) and Rakhi (57Kg Category) won Silver Medals while Gursimran Kaur(63 Kg Category), Sapna Sharma(84Kg Category) and Pardeep Kaur(57Kg Category) won Bronze Medals.
After this excellent performance, Both Gold Medalists have been selected for National Power Lifting Championship to be held in Chennai (Tamil Nadu).

Ticket Pasting for Communal Harmony at GNKCW

The Members of the Youth Club of Guru Nanak Khalsa College for Women, Gujarkhan Campus, Model Town performed ticket pasting on the vehicles on the theme of communal harmony in the college campus. The words “Communal Harmony” are imprinted on these tickets which were pasted to promote peace and prosperity among the people. The college campus and the area surrounding the college was covered under the drive. Stickers were pasted on the cars which were parked in these areas and also on the vehicles of parents and guardians who came to the college to pick up their wards. Two-wheelers and rickshaws were also included in this category.
General Secretary of the College Governing body, Er. Gurvinder Singh and the Principal of the college, Mrs. Manjit Kaur Ghuman, along with members of the staff participated in the activity and hailed it as a movement to spread awareness regarding the need of communal peace and harmonious living. The Principal commended the students for the same and highlighted the significance of such activities in the present times. She said, “Our College endorses the message of peace and we will continue to organise more such activities.”

House of Readers (Book Club) of Guru Nanak Khalsa College for Women, Gujarkhan Campus, Model Town held a Face to Face with Padma Bhushan Dr. S.S. Johl, Chancellor, Central University, Bathinda. On the occasion, Principal Manjit Kaur Ghuman welcomed the Guest. The highlight of todays function was the discussion on Dr. Johl’s Auto Biography “Rangan Di Gagar”. The members of the Book Club shared their views on this as well as some other books. Dr. Johl shared his life experiences and major achievements with the students. It was followed by an interactive session in which he answered to the queries of the students about his book and focused on the right to equality of education for all. He further emphasized that the awards motivate you to work for the upliftment of the society and everyone should believe in his or her destiny and make efforts to achieve their goals.

SEMINAR ON DIGITIZATION IN BANKING AT GNKCW

Extension Lecture on Literary Criticism at GNKCW

The Post Graduate Department of English of Guru Nanak Khalsa College for Women, Gujarkhan Campus, Model Town held an extension lecture by Dr. Aneel Raina, Professor, Department of English and Cultural Studies, Panjab University, Chandigarh today.
Dr. Raina delivered lectures on Literary theory and Criticism. He emphasized from the beginning of literary theory to its present application in the field of literature. Dr. Raina also apprised the students about the role of criticism and literature in society. He also explained that the main function of a critic is not only to see but to perceive a familiar thing and charge it with fresh energy.
The session was followed by an animated interaction with the students. On the occasion, Principal Manjit Kaur Ghuman underlined the relevance of such lectures which throw light on the inter-relation of literature and life.

7- Days NSS Camp

01st October 2017 The NSS Unit of Guru Nanak Khalsa College for Women, Gujarkhan Campus, Model Town, Ludhiana, is organizing a 7-days Camp from 01st October, 2017 to 07th October, 2017.
Session was started with inaugural ceremony and registration. Madam Principal Mrs. Manjit Kaur Ghuman inaugurated the Camp and addressed 89 volunteers and appreciated for their zeal and enthusiasm for this camp. 89 students have taken pledge as NSS Volunteers. Programme Officers Dr. (Mrs.) Madhu Bala discussed the aims and objectives of joining NSS Camp and Mrs. Punpreet Kaur gave a briefing of the activities to be carried out during the 7-Days Camp.
Evening session began with safety riding drive in which Ms. Himanshi Arora, Safety Riding Officer, Children Park, gave important tips for safer two wheeler drive to avoid road mishaps. She also delivered a talk on required important road rules.
02nd October 2017
The day started with an interactive session on Yoga by Mr. Veer Bhan Gupta from “Yog Sadhna Kender”, Bhartiya Yog Sansthan. He taught various Yoga exercises to NSS Volunteers so that they can live a healthy life. During Morning Session, Swachhta Diwas was celebrated at college premises. In the evening session, Volunteers learn different techniques of Fabric Painting & Block Printing. Students have shown keen interest and participated whole heartedly in it.
03rd October 2017
The day started with the yoga session by Veer Bhan Gupta. In the morning, training session was held on ‘Personality Development’ by Mrs. Preeti Arora. She highlighted the importance of dressing sense and communication Skills. Ms. Lakhwinder Kaur (Dept. of Fine Arts) taught different techniques of Pot Painting & Pot Decoration in the same session.
In the Evening session NSS Volunteers visited Swami Vivekanand Old Age Home Model Town Extn., to interact with old people & know various problems faced by them at later stages of life. While interacting the NSS Volunteers distributed the sweets and necessary items among them. The volunteers also visited the newly constructed Meditation Pyramid and came to know ‘how the cosmic energy that effects the life of human beings.’ They learnt the different scientific techniques for meditation there.
04th October, 2017
The day started with an interactive session on Yoga by Mr. Veer Bhan Gupta from “Yog Sadhna Kender”, Bhartiya Yog Sansthan. The Road rally was taken out with the theme “Cleanliness and Water Conservation” The rally began from college premises and culminated at National Child Labour Project School, Ambedkar Nagar, Ludhiana where volunteers had interactive session with students on cleanliness, health & hygiene. Volunteers taught them various best out of waste techniques and distributed eatables to them.
05th October, 2017
The day started with an interactive session on Yoga by Mr. Veer Bhan Gupta from “Yog Sadhna Kender”, Bhartiya Yog Sansthan. He taught various Yoga exercises to NSS Volunteers so that they can live a healthy life. Morning session of 5th day stared with an Interactive Lecture by Ms. Amrinder Kaur (Dept of Home Science) She taught students about Diya Making and Flower Making techniques.
During Evening Session, Ms. Sandhya Goyal a budding entrepreneur discussed various techniques of jewellery making, Gift wrapping. She also made wind chimes and paper flowers. Thus whole day was dedicated to crafting skills and techniques.
06th October, 2017
The sixth day of camp started with morning prayer and Yoga. Morning session started with an Interactive Lecture cum workshop held by Mr. Shiv Kumar on “Stress Management” from The Art of Living. He encouraged the students to join happiness program and learn Sudarshan Kriya and other breathing techniques for Stress Management.
In the Evening session, Mrs. Shikha Kalra (Dept of Home Science) of our college gave training to volunteers in Pudding Making and on Quilling to make Cards, Jewellery, Diyas etc.
Our NSS Volunteers made many articles using these techniques. Different items like Paper Bags, Tie and Dye Dupattas, Gift Packing, Cards, Jewellery, Envelops & Boxes with Paper quilling techniques were prepared by students for the Exhibition.
07th October 2017
The valedictory function was held on the last day of 7 day NSS Camp by the NSS volunteers of Guru Nanak Khalsa College for Women, Gujarkhan Campus, Model Town Ludhiana. The volunteers performed number of cultural items including folk song, dance with great enthusiasm. An exhibition was also held by the Volunteers in which they prepared various items like paper bags, boxes, decorated file covers, yummy chocolates, tie & dye material, envelopes, jewellery, Beautiful Pots etc. Madam Principal Mrs. Manjit Kaur appreciated the students for the exposure of talent in all the items they performed. Programme Officers Dr. (Mrs.) Madhu Bala and Mrs. Punpreet Kaur congratulated the students on the successful completion of 7-day NSS camp.

GNKCW won overall third position in P.U Zonal Youth and Heritage Festival

The students of Guru Nanak Khalsa College for Women, Gujarkhan Campus, Model town brought laurels to the college by their excellent performance in the Panjab University, Zonal Youth and Heritage Festival held at A.S College for Women, Khanna. The college won 28 prizes in total in the various competitions and bagged overall third position in youth festival held from 26th September to 29th September, 2017.
The Participants of Group Song, On the Spot Painting, Story Writing, Classical Instrumental(Non-Percussion), Rangoli, Pakhi Making, Phulkari Making stood first and qualified for the Inter Zone Youth and Heritage festival.
The college Poem Writing, Essay Writing, Heritage Quiz, One Act Play(Individual First), Mime, Baagh Making stood second in their respective competitions.
Besides it, the students also won third position in various categories like Group Shabad(Group and Individual), Quiz, Gudhiya Patole Making, Naala Making, Folk Song, Histrionics, Still Life, On the Spot Painting, Elocution, Muhavredarr Vartalap, Group Folk Orchestra(Group and Individual), Ladies Traditional Song and giddha.

Awareness Camp on Digital Transactions at GNKCW

The Department of Business Management and Commerce of Guru Nanak Khalsa College for Women, Model Town, Ludhiana organized an Awareness Camp in collaboration with Indian Bank, Model Town, Ludhiana. The camp was presided by S. Balbir Singh, Manager, Indian Bank, Zonal Officer, Ludhiana & Charanjit Nanda, Assistant Manager, Indian Bank, Zonal Officer, Ludhiana.
The camp was focused on how to register for net-banking online, UPI Registration Process, Working of National Payment Corporation India, USSD Banking, Aadhar Enabled Payment System (AEPS), Point of sale(POS) terminals and its types i.e physical POS, MPOS and VPOS. The various new digital products were described such as Green Pin for ATM, Digi-Locker, E-Wallets, Net-banking, Pre-paid Cards, Travel Cards etc. The various hacking devices followed by safe banking tips were also discussed while using ATM Card, Credit Card / Debit Card as well as online transactions. The Principal of the college Mrs. Manjit Kaur Ghuman thanked the team for providing vision and guidance on Digital Transactions.

Workshop on Importance of Values for Business Organisation at GNKCW

A workshop on “Why values are important for Business Organization?” was organized for the students of Business Management today at Guru Nanak Khalsa College for Women, Model Town, Ludhiana.
Resource person Dr. Lakhwinder Singh Kang, Professor, Department of Commerce, GNDU, Amritsar apprised students with his valuable lessons and practical knowledge on the respective topic and its applicability in their future life. Students were enlightened on various concepts like ethical behavior, cultural values and various critical issues around the world regarding work culture and its implications.
The interactive session that included case studies of leading corporates provided deep insight into the work culture and value systems of Business Organizations.

Students of Guru Nanak Khalsa College for Women, Gujarkhan Campus, Model Town, Ludhiana, brought laurels to the college in PGDCA-2nd Semester examination held in May, 2017 held by Panjab University, Chandigarh. Student of PGDCA-2nd Semester, Manpreet Kaur scored 87.30% and stood 1st in the college. Kritika Kalra who scored an aggregate of 80.80% stood 2nd in the college. Navdeep Kaur secured 3rd position in the college by scoring 80.60%.
The overall result is 100%.

Industrial Visit by BBA Students of GNKCW

An industrial visit to Infosys, Chandigarh Campus was organised for the students of Business Management, Guru Nanak Khalsa College for Women, Model Town, Ludhiana. 80 students along with their teachers visited the Infosys Campus to know the corporate culture and gain insight into the work environment of one of the leading IT gaints. They were briefed about the company’s history, major milestones and work environment. It was followed by a guided tour of the campus elaborating upon the facilities provided to the employees and company’s various environment friendly projects. It was indeed a memorable and knowledgeable experience for the students.

GNKCW girl topped Panjab University in M.Com (4th Semester)

Students of Guru Nanak Khalsa College for Women, Gujarkhan Campus, Model Town, Ludhiana, brought laurels to the college by securing 44 first divisions in M.Com (4th Semester) examination held by Panjab University in May, 2017. Jasleen Kaur topped the university by scoring 83.10% marks.. Silky Bathla who scored an aggregate of 80.75% stood second in the college. Simerpreet Kaur secured the third position by scoring 78.32% marks.

Swachhta Pakhwara-2017 Drive organized by GNKCW

NSS Unit of Guru Nanak Khalsa College for Women, Gujarkhan Campus, Model Town, observed the Swachhta Pakhwara- 2017 in which Health Hygience and Cleanliness drive was organized. 25 NSS volunteers along with more than 50 students of National Child Labour Project, Training Centre at Ambedkar Nagar participated.
A Lecture on Balanced Diet and its various sources, cure and prevention of Swine Flu, Dengue and personal hygiene was delivered by Volunteers and NSS Programme Officers.
The management and Principal of the college, Mrs. Manjit Kaur Ghuman applauded the efforts taken by the volunteers.

Book Exhibition at GNKCW

A Book exhibition was organized at Guru Nanak Khalsa College for Women, Gujharkhan Campus, Model Town, Ludhiana.
Janchetna, a social organization displayed books of publishers from various cities of Punjab, like Patiala, Jalandhar and Ludhiana. The main aim of the exhibition was to make the students aware about the various revolutionary movements which made a mark in the history of India. A variety of subjects were covered by the books displayed by the organizers ranging from history, literature and Russian ideology to Indian freedom fighters. The students and teachers showed keen interest in the exhibition.
Principal of the college, Mrs. Manjit Kaur Ghuman said, “Such exhibitions are frequently organized by the college authorities to inculcate reading habits amongst the students.”

TREE PLANTATION DRIVE AT GNKCW

A tree plantation drive was organized by the NCC Wing, NSS Unit & Youth Club of Guru Nanak Khalsa College for Women, Gujarkhan Camps, Model Town, Ludhiana today as a part of Swachhta Pakhwara-2017.
Saplings were planted in and around the college campus as a part of the drive. The volunteers pledged to make Ludhiana a clean and green city. Principal, Mrs. Manjit Kaur Ghuman, made the students aware about the threats of global warming and encouraged them to grow more plants for a healthy life.

Students of Guru Nanak Khalsa College for Women, Gujarkhan Campus, Model Town, Ludhiana, brought laurels to the college by securing University Position in Post Graduate Diploma in Mass Communication(PGDMC)- 2nd Semester examination held by Panjab University in May, 2017.
Pawanpreet Kaur scored 69.33% and stood 9th in University. Rupali Luthra stood second in college by securing 65.11% followed by Prakriti Jain who scored third position in college (62.88%).

Cleanliness Drive at GNKCW

Guru Nanak Khalsa College for Women, Gujarkhan Campus, Model Town launched Cleanliness Drive under the action plan of HRD Ministry(Swachhta Pakhwara) from 01 September. As a part of this drive, the hostel wing and its surroundings were cleaned today by NCC Wing, NSS Unit and Youth Club of the college with great enthusiasm and zeal. The programme will continue for 15 days in which various activities such as clean campus, clean mess and Tree Plantation etc. will be undertaken.
Principal of the college, Mrs. Manjit Kaur Ghuman encouraged the students to participate in such programmes and emphasized on keeping the surroundings clean by inculcating good habits in one’s daily routine.

Freshers’ Party at GNKCW

The much awaited Freshers’ Party at Guru Nanak Khalsa College for Women, Gujarkhan Campus, Model Town, Ludhiana was held today for the first year students by their seniors.
The function was presided over by chief guest Dr. Monika Singla (Neurologist, DMCH, Ludhiana), members of the management and other esteemed guests. The seniors extended a warm welcome to the new -comers with great zeal and enthusiasm at S. Sant Singh Gujarkhani Auditorium. The youngsters cheered and hooted for their peers and juniors.
The newcomers were introduced through Catwalk on the ramp. Ms. Satinder Kaur (Owner, Fettle Fitness Hub), Ms. Mansi Sethi ( Renowned Fashion Designer) and Ms. Sovina Jagpal (TV Anchor & Radio Artist with FM Radio) were the judges for the event. The high voltage music and dance performances doled out by a mixed bunch of freshers and seniors were a special attraction of the day. Over 46 girls put the stage on fire with their ramp walk. The foot-tapping music, the flash lights along with the excitement and high spirits of the youngsters made the party unbridled and exuberant. The students also exhibited their talent in form of choreographed dance performances. The title of Miss. Fresher, 2017-18 went to Bhumi followed by First Runner-up- Mansimran and as Japneet Second Runner up. The other titles were as follows:

Seminar on Job Opportunities in Banking & Insurance Sector at GNKCW

PG Department of Business Management & Commerce and the Career Counseling Cell of Guru Nanak Khalsa College for Women, Gujarkhan Campus, Model Town organized a Seminar on “Job Opportunities in Banking & Insurance Sector” today.
Mr. Shambu Tiwari (Director, IBT Institute Pvt. Ltd., Ludhiana) addressed the students to setup their goals and do hard work to inculcate knowledge for any profession. The aim of the seminar was to make students aware about job opportunities in govt. & private sector banks, insurance and corporate sector. He apprised the students about the procedure how to qualify the competitive exam as well as how to appear in the interview.
He also discussed about the various website as well as journals which can help the students for clearing these exams.
The lecture was primarily for the students of final year of different streams.
Mrs. Manjit Kaur Ghuman, Principal of the College, on this occasion, underlined the relevance of such lectures in the present time of competition and career orientation.

Workshop cum Seminar on GST Conducted at GNKCW

PG Department of Business Management and Commerce of Guru Nanak Khalsa College for Women, Model Town, Ludhiana organized a workshop cum seminar on GST-2017. The workshop was conducted by Dr. Renu Verma & Mrs. Jasmine Kaur from IBM Gurgaon in collaboration with TIME Institute, Ludhiana. The Speakers gave a detailed knowledge of GST, how to calculate it and how it is divided between Centre and State Governments. The calculations of Input Tax Credit and how the unutilized tax credit be carried forward or claimed, was also discussed. The workshop also focused on limitations of existing tax structure followed by importance of GST in current scenario in the promotion of exports as well as FDI, improving GDP of the country and controlling Black Money.

Extension Lecture on Leadership Skills at GNKCW

Department of Business Administration & Commerce and Department of Computer Applications of Guru Nanak Khalsa College for Women, Gujarkhan Campus, Model Town, Ludhiana organised an Extension Lecture on Leaderships Skills by Ludhiana Chapter of AIESEC today.
AIESEC is the world’s largest youth-led network creating positive impact through personal development and shared global experiences. This organization provides young people with self-driven, practical and global experiences. The visiting members of AIESEC recruited student volunteers for the same through group discussion and personal interview.
In addition to this the membership is also provided a platform to be a part of national and global forums and go for global internships of their choice in the network of numerous countries that AIESEC is currently present in.
Principal of the college, Mrs. Manjit Kaur Ghuman appreciated the efforts of the organisation and motivated the students to come forward for such projects.

Teej Celebrations at GNKCW

Guru Nanak Khalsa College for Women, Gujarkhan Campus, Model Town, Ludhiana wore the festive look of a lively village with trinjans of students and teachers wearing colourful traditional Punjabi attires.
The chief guest on the occasion was Mrs. Sukhi Brar, an eminent traditional folk singer. She inaugurated an exhibition of Punjabi cultural and heritage items organized by the college. It was an impressive display of traditional embroidery on sheets and cushions, pakhis and age-old utility items like charkha and radio-sets.
The campus split with laughter and mirth when vivacious and spirited girls enjoyed the flower bedecked Peengs to the tune of Teej songs.
Girls savored ‘Batata puri’, ‘chaat’, ‘chuski’ and other street snacks from the food-stands put up in the college campus. The spectacular show was marked by a variety of other stalls including fun games, nail art, mehandi, bangles, and cosmetics by the students. The hot pick of the day were cakes and handmade accessories. Huge rush was seen on game stalls organized by the students of various departments.
Moreover 82 stunning Punjabi mutiyaars were ready with their gait and sportive spirit for “Teeyian di rani” Competition. The esteemed judges are Dr. Jaswinder Brar (Professor, PAU), Dr. Jaspreet Kaur and Ms. Jaspreet Kaur, both are renowned personalities in the field of Punjabi Culture. GNKCW students excel in BCom-2nd Semester Results

Students of Guru Nanak Khalsa College for Women, Gujarkhan Campus, Model Town, Ludhiana, brought laurels to the college by achieving excellent result in BCom- 2nd Semester Examination held in May, 2017. BCom-2nd Semester student Enam topped the college by securing 78.93% while Arshdeep Kaur who scored an aggregate of 78.48% stood second in college. Poonam Uppal stood third in the college by obtaining 76.96%.
170 students secured first division.

Swachh Bharat Pakhwara Drive and Quiz Competition organized at GNKCW

NSS Unit of Guru Nanak Khalsa College for Women, Gujarkhan Campus, Model Town, organized the Swachh Bharat Pakhwara drive in which 50 NSS volunteers participated. They carried out a series of activities in the college library with great zeal. Volunteers rearranged the book-shelves and catalogues, weeding out the old magazine and newspapers during the task. NSS Unit and Youth Club of the college also Offline Quiz Competition for making New India on account of 75th year of “Quit India Movement” and 70th year of India’s Independence.
The endeavor was taken to commemorate the great events and sacrifices of our revered freedom fighters during the freedom struggle. About 50 students participated in it.

Industrial Visit by M.Com Students of GNKCW

An industrial visit to Vardhman Nishhinbo Group Company Limited, Ludhiana was organised for the students of Post Graduate Department of Business Management and Commerce, Guru Nanak Khalsa College for Women, Model Town, Ludhiana. 78 students along with their teachers visited the industry. The students came to know about various stages of production process of shirts and various brands of company. They also visited various stores of the company such as Fabric Store, Trim Store and Cutting, Storage, warehouse and assembly sections etc.
The students got an exposure on the practical aspect of the different techniques of producing threads, baking process of SSP Fabric, fabric selection and various quality control techniques of TQM. The students also got information about incentive schemes and Stress Management techniques. Principal Mrs. Manjit Kaur congratulated the students for visiting the industrial unit.

Classical Indian Music Performance at GNKCW

Guru Nanak Khalsa College for Women, Gujarkhan Campus, Model Town in association with Ludhiana Chapter of SPIC MACAY organized a live musical performance today in the college premises. SPIC MACAY – Society for the Promotion of Indian Classical Music and Culture amongst Youth is our country’s one of the largest cultural and voluntary movement that organizes various events throughout the year to promote the rich heritage and classical art forms of India. A Jugalbandi by Flute Maestro Pandit Rupak Kulkarni and Pandit Mithilesh Kumar Jha was performed on this occasion.
Pandit Kulkarni was accompanied on tabla by Pandit Jha. The august audience was mesmerized and spell bound by their performance. The Principal of the college, Mrs. Manjit Kaur Ghuman expressed her gratefulness to the members of SPIC MACAY and other renowned artists for sparing their valuable time for the occasion.

BCA-2nd Semester student Narinder Kaur topped the college by securing 80.50% while Gursimran Kaur who scored an aggregate of 79.75% stood second in college. Ravjot Kaur stood third in the college by obtaining 78.75%.
Result of the college is 100%. 29 students secured first division.

Kirtan and Ardas at GNKCW

Guru Nanak Khalsa College for Women, Gujarkhan Campus, Model Town inaugurated the new academic session 2017-18 by seeking the blessings of the Almighty today. In this respect, a programme of Shabad-Kirtan was organized in the college premises. The august gathering comprised of the members of the college governing body, the Principal, distinguished guests, members of the faculty, and students of the college. The staff and students of the Department of Music opened the event with an invocation to the Lord in the form of Kirtan. On this occasion, Bhai Sahib Bhai Joginder Singh Ji Riar enthralled the audience with the divine recitation of Shabad Kirtan, which was followed by the recital of Path Sri Anand Sahib and Ardas. His soulful voice moved and inspired all, teachers and students alike.

SUMMER FEAST AND CRAFT EXPO Concludes at GNKCW

Department of Home Science of Guru Nanak Khalsa College for Women, Gujarkhan Campus, Model Town organized an Summer Feast and Craft Expo.
It started on June 01, 2017 and concluded today with an exhibition of different Cooking and handicraft items. The guest of honour on this occasion were Mrs. Amrit Kaur Sarna, Mrs. Abhineet Kaur Sarna and Mrs. Prabhjot Kaur Dua.
Various activities like Salad making, Baking, Gift Wrapping, Block Printing, Quilling, South Indian Cooking etc were taught to the participants. BCA Farewell party at GNKCW

Students of Guru Nanak Khalsa College for Women, Gujarkhan Campus, Model Town celebrated their ‘sisterhood’ of poignant association of three years through a farewell party ‘ADIOS- 2017’ organised by B.C.A. II year students for the outgoing class.
The enthusiasm and gusto of the party peeled off its layers with smiles, tears, reminiscences and a cultural bonanza comprising dances and games.
The beauty pageant was the highlight of the show. Navdeep Saini won the title of Miss Crowning Glory. Shikha Sharma was declared as Miss Perfect Blend and Payal Vadera as Miss Monolisa Smile. The revelry of the farewell party reached apex with lovely damsels dedicating songs to their teachers in order to express their affection and gratitude. The Principal of the college, Mrs. Manjit Kaur Ghuman crowned the winners and motivated them to empower themselves for all their future endeavours. She asserted that the students should carry forward the morals given by their alma mater and make these values a base of their future actions and thoughts.

Arpit Sharma, a visually impaired student of this class scored 78.25% and stood first in the college while Sadhika Batra and Simran Haryani who scored an aggregate of 74% stood second in the college. Alka stood third by getting 73%.
