GNKCW students bagged prizes in Inter-college Hunar 2022 competition
The students of our college brought laurels by clinching numerous prizes in the Inter-College Hunar competition organized by Khalsa Institute of Management and Technology (KIMT), Civil Lines, Ludhiana on March 30, 2022.

An Educational trip was organized by the college to the historical place, Sri Bhaini Sahib and deer Park at Neelon canal, Ludhiana. Mrs. Jaswinder Kaur, Head, Department of Hindi and Mrs. Inderjeet Kaur, Department of Punjabi accompanied the students on this visit.
Students attended the inauguration of NSKT Vocational Centre at Nehru Sidhant Kendra, Ludhiana. Mr. Vikas Garg, Secretary of Technical Education, and Industrial Training, Government of Punjab was Chief Guest and Mr. Varinder Kumar Sharma, IAS, Deputy Commissioner was Guest of Honour. Two Day ICHR Sponsored National Seminar on Guru Teg Bahadur Ji was organized on the topic “Paragon of Humanity and Sacrifice- Shri Guru Teg Bahadur Ji” to commemorate the 400th Birth anniversary of Shri Guru Teg Bahadur Ji. (March 25-26, 2022)
Day-1 : Dr. Jagbir Singh, Chancellor, Central University of Punjab, Bathinda was the chief guest while Dr. Sarabjinder Singh, Professor and Dean, Faculty of Humanities and Religious studies, GNDU, Amritsar was the keynote speaker.
Day 2: Dr. Sukhpreet Singh Udhoke, Sikh Historian was the Guest of Honour while Dr. Sarabjit Singh, Chairperson, School of Punjabi Studies, PU, Chandigarh delivered the presidential address.
GNKCW students participated in the Shabad Gyaan competition organized by GHG Khalsa College, Sudhar, Ludhiana on March 17, 2022. The college team, comprising six members, obtained 4th position while two students bagged individual prizes. Simrandeep Kaur won 2nd prize whereas Geetanjali got an Appreciation prize.
Sangrand Celebration: Chet month’s Sangrand was celebrated with full fervor on the college campus on March 14, 2022. The event started with prayers of Shri Japji Sahib Ji and Shri Chaupai Sahib Ji followed by Ardaas. Dr. Kuldeep Kaur, Associate Professor, PG Department of Commerce highlighted the importance of this day. Madam Principal, Dr. Maneeta Kahlon, staff, and students prayed for the wellbeing of everyone.

A Luncheon Party was organized to celebrate the wedding of ‘Pranav and Vinny’, the son and daughter-in-law of Dr. Parveen Arora, Assistant Professor, Department of Public Administration. The members of the College Governing body, Madam Principal, and members of the staff attended the celebration. Faculty from the PG Department of Commerce attended the Post Budget Webinar on “Education and Skill Sector” organized by the Ministry of Education, Government of India on February 21, 2022. The main theme of the webinar was ‘Achieving Atma Nirbharta through the Amrit Mantra of Digital Education and Dynamic Skilling’.

On this occasion, the NSS unit of the college organized a ‘Kite Flying’ activity as a part of ‘Ek Bharat Shrestha Bharat’ program. There was an air of joy and enthusiasm as colorful kites adorned the clear, sunlit sky. The General Secretary of the college governing body, Er. Gurvinder Singh, the college Principal, Dr. Maneeta Kahlon, and the staff members of the college participated in this activity with great zeal. Also, as a part of the celebration, a session on nutritious cooking was organized. Mrs. Prabhjot Kaur, Head, Department of Punjabi demonstrated the preparation of ‘Alsi (Flaxseeds) Pinni’, a traditional and healthy winter recipe.
Day 1: Mrs. Maninder Kaur, Head, PG Department of Commerce, was the resource person. She provided an overview of the impact of various proposals announced in the Union Budget 2022-23 on Indian economy and businesses.
Day 2: Mrs. Manmeet Kaur, Associate Professor, PG Department of Commerce, presented details of various industrial aspects covered in this Union Budget. She also informed about the policy updates related to the Education and Social Welfare sectors.
On the occasion of the 159th birth anniversary of Swami Vivekananda, Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated and addressed the 25th National Youth Festival being hosted by Puducherry. The Principal, Dr. Maneeta Kahlon and Staff of GNKCW attended this virtual event in the college Seminar Hall. The event was also attended by the college students from their homes. (January 12, 2022)
As a part of the infrastructure maintenance policy, the classroom furniture was renovated for ensuring safe and functional spaces throughout the campus. The work picked up pace during this period due to the absence of students on account of COVID and the switchover to the online mode. (January 10, 2022)
The college organized a series of demonstrations on the theme ‘Ab Healthy Living Ki Zimmedari Hamari’ from January 05-12, 2022. In this series, the members of the teaching and non-teaching staff shared their recipes and tips on Immunity Boosting and healthy food options for Winters. The main aim of this multi-part event is to raise awareness about recipes that are power-packed with essential nutrients, vitamins, and minerals and help boost the immune system for combating COVID-19.
Under the aegis of IQAC, the Swachhta Action Plan (SAP) Committee of the college (MGNCRE, Ministry of Education, Government of India) conducted a series of activities as a part of the ‘Gandhi Chhadi’ mission from December 27 to December 31, 2021. Under the leadership of the college Principal, Dr. Maneeta Kahlon, and with the guidance of the SAP coordinator, Dr. Praveen Arora, this five-day campaign aimed to encourage the adoption of an innovative waste collection tool, the Gandhi Chhadi, for ensuring Swachhta.
Day- 1: The campaign began with a brainstorming session on December 27, 2021, wherein the college management and staff chalked out the campaign outline.
Day -2: On December 28, 2021, a detailed plan was formulated regarding the activities to be conducted under the Gandhi Chhadi Mission. A Swachhta pledge was also taken.
Day- 3:On December 29, 2021, the SAP Team organized a workshop on making Gandhi Chhadi. A Campus Cleanliness Drive was conducted in which 20 students of the college participated with full enthusiasm to clean the campus.
Day 4 & Day 5: On December 30 & 31, 2021, the college students and staff took the initiative of cleaning the area outside the campus using Gandhi Chhadi. This activity served the dual purpose of ensuring cleanliness and promoting the adoption of Gandhi Chhadi to the local population. During the entire period of cleanliness drive, 25 Kg of waste was collected which was used for making compost.
The General Secretary of the college governing body, Er. Gurvinder Singh, conducted an inspection of the college building and infrastructure. During the inspection, the various aspects of infrastructure upgradation and maintenance were identified. He highlighted the efforts put in by the college Trust and the Former General Secretary, Professor Gurbir Singh Sarna for the development and growth of the college. He also appreciated the hard work of the college Principal and the Staff for maintaining cleanliness and hygiene in the campus. The Principal of the College, Dr. Maneeta Kahlon assured him that through the joint efforts of the teaching and non-teaching staff, the college will strive to achieve excellence. (December 27, 2021)
The inspection was followed by the birthday celebration of the General Secretary. The get-together was organized by the Staff Welfare society of the college.
The college organized a webinar on the topic “Farm Law Repeal: A Victory of Democracy” to mark National Farmers Day on December 23, 2021. Mrs. Rajwinder Kaur, Assistant Professor, was the Resource Person. She highlighted the importance of the day and also provided an overview of the three contentious farm laws which were rolled back by the Central government. The college Principal, Dr. Maneeta Kahlon urged the students to understand the importance of the contributions made by the farmers for the overall social and economic development of our country.
GNKCW is committed to responsible and effective e-waste management. The e-waste generated by the college was channeled for safe disposal and recycling through Cosmos Recycling Centre, Ludhiana. A certification was also issued by Cosmos Recycling Centre in the name of the college stating that the material received from the college will be handled in “scientific and eco friendly manner” and in strict compliance with the guidelines set by “e-waste rules, 2016 of Central Pollution Control Board.” (December 19, 2021)
Minorities Rights Day underlines the preservation and promotion of the rights of minority communities in India. On this day several campaigns, seminars, and events are conducted to inform and educate people about them. This year, a talk was organized in the college on the occasion of “Minorities Rights Day” on December 18, 2021. Mrs. Punpreet Kaur, Assistant Professor, highlighted the importance of the day and made the students aware of the scholarship schemes for minority students. She also explained the process of applying for scholarships available on the National Scholarships portal.
Attended scholarship meeting at Nehru Sidhant Kendra: Eight undergraduate students and two postgraduate students attended an interaction session with the scholarship committee of the Nehru Sidhant Kender Trust, Ludhiana for the award of Mittal-Pandey Scholarship. Mrs. Punpreet Kaur, Assistant Professor (Department of Business Management and Commerce) accompanied the students during the meeting. (December 17, 2021)
To organize Special programs for advanced and slow learners: Through the performance in mid-semester examination and participation in classroom activities, the college identified advanced learners or high achievers and the slow learners in all the classes. Remedial classes were conducted for slow learners to provide scaffolding for performance enhancement. The advanced learners of different classes were given tokens of appreciation as encouragement for their outstanding performance. The college Principal, Dr. Maneeta Kahlon motivated the students to achieve higher and wished them luck for the upcoming examinations. (December 16-17, 2021)

The college celebrated ‘Poh’ month’s Sangrand (December 15, 2021) to mark the first day of the month according to the Indian traditional calendar. The college students recited soulful Kirtan. Mrs. Maninder Kaur, Head, PG Department of Business Management and Commerce highlighted the importance of this day.

The Staff Welfare Society of the college organized a lunch get-together on December 11, 2021 to celebrate the birthdays of the teachers which fall in the month of November. Token of love was given to the college Principal, Dr. Maneeta Kahlon, and the college teachers, Dr. Parveen Arora, Department of Public Administration, Ms. Neha Dawar, Ms. Ekroop Kaur, Ms. Shubra, Department of Business Management and Commerce, and Mrs. Balwinder Kaur, Department of Fine Arts. Token of affection was given to the members of non-teaching staff, Mr. Suresh from the Administrative office, and Mrs. Harvinder Kaur, a member of Library staff. Token of gratitude was given to supporting staff: Mr. Baljeet Singh and Mr. Ramesh. The coordinators of the Staff Welfare Society, Mrs. Jaswinder Kaur, and Mrs. Punpreet Kaur organized the celebration. Principal Dr. Maneeta Kahlon congratulated the members of the staff on their birthday and wished them success in all their endeavors.
Parent Teacher Association of the college organised Parent Teacher Meet on December 11, 2021. The parents were given warm welcome by GNKCW team members. During the meet, an open interaction was held with parents of students from different streams. Various students oriented activities and extracurricular activities were discussed with parents. Academic performance of the students was shared by subject teachers. Parents were also asked for their suggestions in this forum. The event was organised under guidance of Coordinator Mrs. Manpreet Kaur and Co-coordinator Dr. Madhu Dhawan.
Under the aegis of Internal Quality Assurance Cell, the College initiated the noble task of granting Scholarship in the name of former General Secretary of the college Governing Body, Prof. Gurbir Singh Sarna to Fatherless Beti’s of the college. Prof. Sarna was a visionary and philanthropist who always thought of providing education to the marginalised and deprived sections of the society. Under this program, twenty four students were awarded scholarship by the college authorities to provide equitable education to all the students. Principal Dr. Maneeta Kahlon appreciated the noble initiative taken by the college as it would provide an opportunity to the students who unfortunately lost the earning member of their families. General Secretary Er. Gurvinder Singh Sarna further asserted that the management is always looking forward to help the needy students in every possible way. (December 09, 2021)
The Water management Team (Swachhta Action Plan committee) under MGNCRE (Ministry of Education, Government of India) has been working diligently towards Water Management in the campus. Keeping in mind the purpose of using scarce water resources up to optimum level, the Rain Water Harvesting Project was initiated on December 4, 2021. The layout and location of the tank and pipelines were determined by inspecting the lawn areas so as to maximize the use of collection surfaces. Through this project, the collected rainwater will be used to recharge the groundwater levels by using structures like dug wells, borewells, recharge trenches and recharge pits. This project was successfully completed on January 4, 2022.
General Secretary of the College governing Body, Er. Gurvinder Singh, Principal Dr. Maneeta Kahlon and Co-ordinators of Water Management Team, Dr. Kuldeep Kaur and Mrs. Shikha Kalra were actively involved in this project.
Internal Quality Assurance Cell of the college in collaboration with Swachhata Action Plan Committee (SAP), Students of NCC Wing, NSS Unit, Red Ribbon Club, Youth Club, Red Cross Society, Swachhata Police and Eco Club celebrated International Volunteer Day on December 5, 2021. This day provides a chance for vounteers and organisations to celebrates their efforts, values and promote their work among their communities. To mark the day, following activities were carried out in the college on December 04:
1. The students of the college pledged to contribute towards sustainable human development.
2.An interactive lecture on fostering volunteerism was delivered by Dr. Parveen Arora, Assistant Professor, Department of Public Administration.
3.The student volunteers of the Water Management Team also pledged to promote the saving of water to maintain the continuity of life on the earth.
4.The student volunteers of the Waste Management Team pledged to promote the usage of bio enzymes instead of pesticides to increase the durability of soil and to further ensure sustainable development.
Under the aegis of IQAC, Department of Physical Education gifted cricket kits to Guru Nanak Khalsa School, our sister institution in the Gujarkhan Campus on December 04, 2021. Under the direction of Mrs. Rajveer Kaur, this goodwill gesture was executed with the aim of developing a sense of camaraderie.
Swachhata Action Plan Committee (SAP) in collaboration with Department of Fine Arts observed International Soil Day in the college campus on December 4, 2021. This day is observed on December 5 to raise awareness about the importance of soil, healthy ecosystems and human well-being. A number of students participated in clay modelling activity and showcased their creativity.
Under the aegis of IQAC, the Swachhta Action Plan (SAP) committee and the NCC Unit of the college organized an awareness lecture to mark World Toilet Day on November 18, 2021. Dr. Praveen Arora, the SAP coordinator, highlighted the importance of sanitation and hygiene for better health, the environment, economies, and societies. Dr. Madhu Dhawan, coordinator of Sanitation and Hygiene team, informed students about menstrual hygiene practices.
The Swachhta Action Plan (SAP) Committee of the college organized a meeting to review the work being done to keep the campus green, clean and environment-friendly on November 16, 2021. The deliberations were done to decide the future course of action.
Sanitation and Hygiene committee under Swachhta Action Plan Committee (SAP), formed a “Hygiene Squad” on November 15, 2021 in which more than 30 students were enrolled. Members of the squad were assigned duties for ensuring clean and safe environment in the college premises.
Waste Management Team (SAP) of the college under MGNCRE, Ministry of Education, Government of India, and Department of Fine arts has collected waste plastic and glass bottles. Students have painted and decorated the waste bottles in an artistic way. These bottles have been used for plantation to enhance the beautification of the college. These planters have been placed on the college campus. (November 13, 2021).
Energy management Team(SAP) of College under MGNCRE, Ministry of Education, Government of India, has been in constant action for locating and stopping wastage of energy on November 13, 2021. Under this, service of generator was carried out in college. Generator was cleaned, its oil and filter were changed.
Mrs. Manmeet Kaur, who has been appointed as the Supervisor by MC (Ludhiana) for the conduct of NDA Exam, attended the meeting held at the Office of the Deputy Commissioner, Ludhiana on November 11, 2021.
Swachhta Action Plan Committee in collaboration with Internal Quality Assurance Cell of college constituted Swachhta Police to maintain the cleanliness of the campus on November 11, 2021. Principal Dr Maneeta Kahlon asserted that realizing its responsibility in ensuring a sustainable development, the institution is making determined efforts to contribute to varied dimension of swachhta including environmental conservation, waste management, energy conservation and much more.
Under the guidance of Waste Management Team coordinators, Dr. Balbir Kaur and Mrs. Rajwinder Kaur, the junk stationery/ paper, folders, and cartons were collected for reuse and recycling. Later, under the guidance of Mrs. Harpreet Kaur (Department of Fine Arts), the students of Fine Arts recycled these items as various forms like tables, chairs, pen stands, vase, photo frames and human figures. Proper waste management and recycling have health and economic benefits and also help in protecting the environment. (November 08, 2021)
A lunch get-together was organized by the Staff Welfare Society on October 30, 2021 to celebrate the birthdays of the teachers which fall in the month of October . Token of love were given to the following teachers: Mrs. Maninder Kaur, Ms Jaswinder Kaur, Ms Gursimran from Department of Business Management and Commerce, Dr. Anupam Vatsyayan and Ms. Jaspreet Kaur from Department of English, and Ms. Daisy Wadhwa from Department of Computer Science and Applications. Tokens were also given to supporting staff: Dilip, Anant Kumar Yadav, Vipin and Amit. Staff secretaries, Mrs. Jaswinder Kaur and Mrs. Punpreet Kaur, organized the event.
Volunteers under the Energy management Team (SAP Committee) in collaboration with IQAC started preparations of DIWALI by cleaning and decorating Gurudwara Sahib in order to seek the blessings of Almighty God. Energy consuming lights were replaced by LED light for saving energy. Electricity repair work was also undertaken (October 25-28, 2021). A rally was organized to sensitize and encourage people to celebrate pollution free Diwali and to buy and use earthen diyas on October 30, 2021. Students made creative posters carrying influencing messages, for spreading awareness in and around campus for using natural and eco friendly items. Principal Dr Maneeta Kahlon led the rally, followed by teachers and students. She appreciated the efforts of students and motivated everyone for celebrating green Diwali.
Water Management Team (Swachhta Action Plan Committee) under MGNCRE, Ministry of Education, Government of India, is making great effort to conserve water. All water coolers of the college have been regularly maintained to ensure clean drinking water and drainage pipes are attached so that not even a single drop of water will be wasted during drinking water. The waste water pipes are directly connected to the green areas of the college and the sewerage points to ensure zero wastage of water.(October 25, 2021)

The water tanks of the college were cleaned as a part of the Water Audit for SAP on October 19, 2021. The college has 8 water tanks. The capacity of 3 tanks is 500 litres and of 5 tanks is 1000 litres. This will help in proper conservation of water and is a prerequisite to maintain a hygienic environment.
A team of officials from Mahatma Gandhi National Council of Rural Education under the Ministry of Human Resource Development, in Government of India visited the college campus on October 19, 2021 to assess the institution under Swachhta Action Plan Project. Mr. Samarth Sharma and Mr. Ajay Desai inspected the college on five parameters, namely, Greenery, Solid Waste Management, Sanitation & Hygiene, Water Management, and Energy management. The inspection was performed under the guidance of the college Principal, Dr. Maneeta Kahlon and the coordinator of Swachhta Action Plan committee, Dr. Praveen Arora.
A Freshers Party was organized in the college to welcome the first year students of all streams on October 16, 2021. The function was presided over by chief guest Mrs. Abhineet Kaur Sarna. The members of the management and other esteemed guests were also present on the occasion. The seniors extended a warm welcome to the newcomers with great zeal and enthusiasm. The newcomers were introduced through Catwalk on the ramp. Ms. Mehak Jain (Journalist, Times of India), Ms. Monica Dhall (Image Consultant, Espoir Institute) and Ms. Jasdeep Lotey (Makeup Artist) were the judges for Ms. Fresher Contest. Over 47 girls put the stage on fire with their ramp walk. The foot-tapping music, the flash lights along with the excitement and high spirits of the youngsters made the party unbridled and exuberant. The students also exhibited their talent in the form of choreographed dance performances.
A Tea party was organized for the hostellers on the occasion of Dussehra festival on October 15, 2021. Madam Principal Dr. Maneeta Kahlon and the Hostel Warden Ms. Kulwant Kaur joined the hostellers, thereby adding yet another experience to the valuable memories which the students are making in the college hostel.
A Quiz Competition was organized by Sehaj Path Society in collaboration with IQAC to mark the 400th Birth Anniversary of Guru Tegh Bahadur Ji on October 13, 2021. Dr. Balbir Kaur helped in the successful conduct of this event. S.Jaswinder Singh, a renowned U.K. based philanthropist, graced the occasion with his presence. He addressed the audience on the topic “Guru Granth Sahib ji and its implications in life”. Senchies of the Holy book were presented to all those students who were ascertained to do Sehaj Path. The event witnessed an overwhelming participation of 180 students. The day concluded with a Prize-giving Ceremony in which the winners of various Talent Hunt Competitions held in the college from October 07-12, 2021 were awarded by S. Jaswinder Singh.
The Greenery Management sub-committee of Swachhta Action Plan (SAP) Committee and the Eco club of the college organised a Poster-making competition and established a herbal garden in the college campus on October 12, 2021. The teachers in-charge working under SAP coordinator Dr. Parveen Arora were: Mrs. Gaganeetpal Kaur, Mrs. Harpreet Kaur, Mrs. Inderjit Kaur, Ms. Anju Kapoor, Ms. Shalini.
The gardeners involved in setting up the herbal garden were Mr. Subhash, Mr. Amit and Mr. Nitin.
A poster-making competition was also organized on this occasion by members of Greenery Management Team and Water Management Team.
To mark “International Girl Child Day” in the college, eminent personalities like Rtn. Sunil Budhiraja (President), Rtn. Attiv Ralli (Project Director), Rtn. Rajan Kapur (Convener) and Rtn. Angad Kehr (Executive Board Member) visited the college for a face-to-face interaction with the students on October 11, 2021. This event was successfully conducted by Dr. Nidhi, Mrs. Punpreet, Mrs. Kirti and Ms. Daisy keeping in mind the theme “Digital generation: Our generation”. Various departments of the college organized a number of unique activities to commemorate this special day. To enhance the culture of personality development among the students, an Effective Public Speaking Session was conducted by CA Jasminder Singh from Rotary Club. The Department of Mass Communication shared the stories of those students who are Tech Trailblazers advancing through social platforms while the Department of Computer Science and Applications had a discussion on their Digital initiatives during Covid 19 Lockdown.
