NSS

NSS unit of our College has been working very efficiently during the session 2019-20 under the guidance of Mrs. Punpreet Kaur (Dept. of Commerce) and Mrs Satwant Kaur (Dept. of Computer Science and Application). Number of activities was carried on throughout the year.

  • A donation drive was organized in collaboration with an NGO, Mission Smile on 30 August 2019. The students contributed various items like rice, pulses, Dry Milk Powder, Torches, candles, medicines, etc. to the flood victims

  • NSS Unit organized SwachhtaPakhwada in the campus from August 01-15, 2019. Many activities like lectures related to Swachhta, Swachhta Pledge, A Rally to create awareness about cleanliness, Tree Plantation Drive were performed during the drive.

  • SadbhavanaDiwas was celebrated on August 20, 2019 to mark the birth anniversary of Former Prime Minister of India Late Mr. Rajiv Gandhi.

  • Volunteers participated in Fit India Movement which was launched by Prime Minister of India, Narendra Modi on August 29, 2019.

  • PoshanAbhiyaan (Nutrition Month) was celebrated as per the guidelines of Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports/Directorate of NSS on September 24, 2019. A lecture was delivered by Mrs. ShikhaKalra from the Dept. of Home Science on Health and Nutrition.

  • An awareness rally on stubble burning was organized in different villages as notified by Punjab Pollution Control board on October 12, 2019.

  • A workshop on Disaster Management and Life Saving skills was organized in collaboration with Bhai Ghanaiya Ji Welfare Society, Mohali on November 08, 2019.

  • Vigilance Awareness Week-2019 on the theme “Integrity- A Way of Life” was also initiated.

  • A 7-day NSS camp on the theme "Save Environment" was held in the Collegefrom December 24-30, 2019, in which 79 volunteers took part. The main activities of the 7-day NSS Camp were:
    • Yoga class was conducted by YogacharyaKaram Veer, Founder, Divine Yoga Institute & Training Center, Ludhiana

    • A Taekwondo class was conducted by Mr. Surjit Verma.

    • Dr.Balwinder Kaur (Dietician and Nutrition Expert) conducted a workshop on “Importance of Balanced Diet for Wellbeing”.

    • NSS Volunteers visited “Swami Vivekanand Old Age Home” to offer services to old persons and to learn about the health problems faced by them at later stages of life.

    • Poster-making Competition was organized on the theme "Save Environment"

    • A workshop on Mind Management was conducted by B.K. Meenakshi, B.K Sonia Malhotra & B.K. Baljinder Kaur

    • Lecture was delivered by the team members of theThind Dental Clinic on "Dental Awareness"

    • A workshop on“Salad from Microgreens” was conducted by Mrs. ShikhaKalra (Deptt of Home Science).

    • Ms. Balwinder Kaur conducted a workshop on Art and Craft.

    • “Share and Care” donation drive was organized to donate various items like clothes, sweaters, shoes, bags, etc, to NekikiDukaan, an initiative of EK NOOR SEWA KENDRA.

    • Following the programme ''Ek Bharat Shrestha Bharat,'' a number of activities were organized including video screening related to the culture, history, and tourism of Andhra Pradesh which has been chosen as the paired state of Punjab. An effort was also made to pick up the language of the paired state during the session. The volunteers performed number of cultural items with great enthusiasm showing integration of folk dances of paired states - Punjab and Andhra Pradesh.

    • Cleanliness Drive was also conducted.

    • A pledge on Water Conservation was made.

    • On Valedictory day, a CraftExhibition was held by NSS volunteers.

  • International Women's Day was celebrated on March 09, 2020. A Lecture was delivered by Mrs. Jaswinder Kaur (HOD, Hindi Department) in the Morning Assembly.

    • Ms. Parneet Kaur (Secretary NSS) also shared her views and encouraged students to recognize the importance of themselves as women and motivated them for greater future achievements.

    • Ms. Bhawna of NSS student also recited a poem entitled "Haan Main Aurat Hun".

  • NSS Unit began a campaign against COVID-19 stigma to ensure safety and boost morale of those working on COVID-19 line of duty. Series of activities are undertaken;

    • Programme Officers and Volunteers registered on iGOTPORTAL for online training on health education on prevention and transmission of COVID-19.

    • Made a video to thank frontline workers, Doctors etc.

  • International day of Yoga was observed on the theme Yoga @ Home and Yoga with Family. Posters on importance of Yoga were also prepared. Volunteers also took pledge to make Yoga indispensable part of their life.
